Effect of long-term leisure time physical activity on lean mass and fat mass in girls during adolescence.

The purpose of this 7-yr prospective longitudinal study was to examine if the level and consistency of leisure-time physical activity (LTPA) during adolescence affected the quantity and distribution of lean mass (LM) and fat mass (FM) at early adulthood. The study subjects were 202 Finnish girls who were 10–13 yr old at baseline. LM and FM of the total body (TB), arms, legs, and trunk were assessed by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Background Older people with somatic illnesses are at increased risk of depression. It is not known whether exercise alleviates depressive symptoms in frail, very old people recuperating from an acute illness. Objective To determine the effects of a group-based exercise training program on mood. Health related quality of life and physical activity in prison: a multicenter observational study in Italy.

Background Inmates have a poorer health status than the general population. The physical activity is well know that improve the wellness of the people. This multicentric cross-sectional study aimed to assess the relationship between Quality of Life (QoL) and physical activity levels among Italian prisoners. The effect of mixing on glucose fermentation by Zymomonas mobilis continuous culture

Abstract The influence of mixing (in the range from 300 to 1100 rpm) on the performance of Zymomonas mobilis anaerobic continuous culture was studied. Biomass yield and ethanol productivity were improved at higher stirring intensities, in parallel with a decrease in byproduct synthesis. A mixing-dependent formation of minor amounts of fructose was first demonstrated in Z. mobilis anaerobic culture on glucose. The rate of fructose synthesis and the specific activity of the key enzyme in the pathway to fructose, phosphoglucose isomerase (EC 5.3.1.9), had a maximum at 700 rpm.

DcuA of Escherichia coli is known as an alternative C4 -dicarboxylate transporter for the main anaerobic C4 -dicarboxylate transporter DcuB. Since dcuA is expressed constitutively under aerobic and anaerobic conditions, DcuA was suggested to serve aerobically as a backup for the aerobic (DctA) transporter, or for the anabolic uptake of C4 -dicarboxylates. In this work, it is shown that DcuA is required for aerobic growth with L-aspartate as a nitrogen source, whereas for growth with L-aspartate as a carbon source, DctA was needed.
