Introducing evidence-based practices to manage problem behaviours at school: The behave application
2020
In the last years, an increasing awareness amongst educator and scholastic psychologists of the relevance to manage behavioural and emotional problems applying evidence-based approaches, and quasi-experimental designs is emerging. This request, however, must come to terms with certain barriers that persist in the school environment. The introduction of quantified methods to assess and monitor student's results, to evaluate the efficacy of the intervention, to understand the evolution of the single, is not part of the usual teacher's curriculum. The present paper describes the BEHAVE (Behavioral management model across Europe) application, a tool able to support the transition of all educato…
Flavour release at the interfaces of stirred fruit yoghurt models
2006
Abstract Model matrices consisting of a pectin and a dairy gel were investigated to study the transfer of flavour compounds between the different phases of stirred fruit yoghurt. Using a full factorial experimental design, different parameters (storage temperature, initial flavour concentration in the pectin gel and fat content of the dairy gel) were studied. The kinetics of the migration of flavour compounds between the two gels were investigated using a novel SPME method, where a Carboxen/Polydimethylsiloxane fibre was directly inserted into the pectin gel. Flavour compounds were predominantly retained in the pectin gel and thus, the presence of fat in the dairy gel did not affect their t…
Check in, check out! : käyttäytymisen tehostettua tukea lähikoulussa
2018
Finnish schools struggle with problem behaviour and need new interventions which are effective, acceptable, and can be implemented with high fidelity in general classrooms. The aim of this study was to examine the effects of Check in check out (CICO) support in decreasing the disruptive behaviours of general education primary school pupils. CICO can be regarded as an intensified level of support in Finnish schools, and its key features are brief morning and afternoon meetings with a CICO coach, the use of a Daily Report Card (DRC), regular positive feedback during the day by the classroom teacher, and parental involvement. The specific aims of the study were threefold: first, to pilot the i…
Behavioral Activation through Virtual Reality for Depression: A Single Case Experimental Design with Multiple Baselines
2022
Behavioral activation (BA) is a structured psychotherapeutic approach for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD), which aims at increasing the engagement in activities that might bring enjoyment and meaning to patients’ lives. Although a growing body of evidence supports the effectiveness of BA, enhancing the motivation and activity level of depressed patients is often challenging. In the present study, we explored the effectiveness of a brief BA treatment supported by virtual reality (VR) to facilitate the visualization and anticipation of four pleasurable activities that we tried to re-introduce in the patients’ daily routine. To do so, we conducted a single-case experimental de…
