Las reglas del diálogo y los movimientos de la polémica

2003

We have to distinguish many types of debates, ranging from constructive dialogue to fighting polemic, two extreme types of exchanges marked by opposite traits: co-operative pattern vs. competitive pattern. Each of them have their typical argumentative schemes, rules or moves, and standard of evaluation. The values that come into play and into conflict are epistemic-conceptual values, dialectical-rhetorical values and ethical-interactional values. All of them may perhaps be unified under the general opposition ¿to be right¿ and ¿to succeed in persuading someone¿. It seems that a controversial attitude in debate, aiming to succeed in persuading by using polemical moves, is not only a classica…

¿Violencia o poder en la constitución de la filosofía moderna?.

2005

The ambiguity of ¿violence¿ and ¿power¿ will be interpreted as meaning that vertebrates the modern political Estate, whether in its constituent role in Machiavelli, Hobbes and Spinoza, or whether in its double critical role: of the Machine-Estate in the setting of early Idealism (Hölderlin, Schelling and Hegel) or of Law, starting from the existential claim to violence (C. Schmitt and W. Benjamin).

Las reflexiones de Mill sobre la relación del hombre con la naturaleza

2003

Can the way Nature acts be a model to imitate? Isn¿t it a praise to say that something is natural? The problem is that if we understand Nature as the whole or totality of everything that happens, it is pure nonsense to recommend following the precepts of Nature, as it is something we cannot avoid doing. On the contrary, if we understand as natural everything that happens without the voluntary participation of men, we are not making the advice to follow Nature more convincing, because most human actions have as their end to correct the suffering and diseases that the ways of Nature create. But if it is true that Mill presents these ideas in his essay Nature, we cannot forget that in other wo…

The aim of the paper is to differentiate three different notions of universality (ontologic, semantic and weak universality) and to discuss some well-known results that show that there exist no universal languages, due to the semantical paradoxes.

2011

this paper presents a reflection on Philosophy and University. Philosophy is an activity than harder could be classified as solely academical. Furthermore, we can distinguish three elements always present in Philosophical teaching such as a cluster of own content, well-thinking procedures and, finally, a way of being in world. They three are linked and the problems between Philosophy and University probably arise from the conjunction of all three. However is difficult to find a solution I speculate about different ways of reducing tension between Philosophy and University

Actualidad de los humanismos en economía ética y bioética

2006

The aim of this contribution is to defend a new humanism for the business ethics and bioethics in the 21st Century. This proposal is based in two traditions of modern humanism: the Scottish (Adam Smith) and the German (Kant). The first one is characterized by the incorporation of feelings to the economic activity; and the second one represents the point of view of moral universalism, which considers: human being as an end itself and human dignity as an unconditional value.
