International Assessment Surveys of Educational Achievement in Developing Countries : Why Education Economists Should Care

International audience; This paper reviews the most known international assessment studies that are conducted in the context of poor countries and highlights the lack of empirical evidence on the degree to which the contents of the tests really match countries' curricula. To illustrate, the paper evaluates the sensitivity of an international testing instrument by comparing the responses of students in two consecutive grades on the same battery of tests. Assessing Statistical Anxiety Among Online and Traditional Students

The purpose of this study was to determine whether scores on the Statistical Anxiety Scale (SAS) manifest in the same way for students in online and traditional statistics courses. Tests of measurement invariance indicated that invariance of the two-factor model of the SAS held at every level. Therefore, we compared the statistical anxiety of online and traditional students. Results indicated that online and traditional statistics students reported comparable levels of anxiety with slightly less anxiety in terms of seeking help for traditional students. One of the main challenges faced by physical therapy (PT) students is to learn the practical skills involved in neurological physical therapy (PT). To help them to acquire these skills, a set of rubrics were designed for formative purposes. This paper presents the process followed in the creation of these rubrics and their application in the classroom, noting that students perceived them as valid, reliable, and highly useful for learning. Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin, miten vanhemmat jäsentävät ja perustelevat alle kaksivuotiaan lapsensa hoitoratkaisuja. Vanhempien haastatteluista tunnistettiin kolme puhetapaa, jotka tarjoavat toisistaan eroavan näkökulman lapsen hoitoratkaisun perusteluksi. Vanhempien tapa käyttää näitä diskursseja – ”vanhemman hyvinvointi”, ”lapsen paras” ja ”rahapuhe” – osoittaa, kuinka kulttuurisesti ja moraalisesti latautuneesta valinnasta lapsen hoitojärjestelyissä on kyse. Relationship between family educational styles and social value of education: reflections of a study

The goal of this study is to analyze the relationship between the social value that the families give to education of their sons and daughters, and the family educational styles. For this, we apply 4103 questionnaires of evaluation of Family Educational Styles (EEF) of Bisquert (2017). We used 5 context variables of the same questionnaire because of their conceptual relationship with the evaluation dimensions of Subjective Social Value of Education (VSESubjective) of Jornet, Perales and Sánchez Delgado (2011). The roles of achievement-related behaviours and parental beliefs in children´s mathematical performance

This study aimed to investigate the developmental dynamics between children's mathematical performance, the task-focused versus task-avoidant behaviours they show in the classroom, and their parents' beliefs concerning their school competence. The mathematical performance of 111 six- to seven-year-old children was tested, and their task-focused versus task-avoidant behaviours were rated by their teachers four times during their first school year.
