The challenge for school-based teacher educators : establishing teaching and supervision goals

School-based teacher educators (SBTEs) should be able to set goals in two roles – as a teacher and as a supervisor of student teachers. The purpose of the study was to investigate school-based teacher educators’ teaching and supervising goals and to identify how teachers in the role of supervisors perceived university expectations. Thematic analysis indicated that teachers have difficulty establishing goals for themselves as teachers and supervisors. Their teaching goals proceeded from curricula and focused on their pupils’ cognitive development, whilst their perceptions about supporting pupils’ social development were vague. Artikkelissa tarkastellaan, miten aikuisten maahanmuuttajaopiskelijoiden opettajat ymmärtävät perustaidot ja opiskelutaidot sekä miten he pedagogisoivat perustaitojen opetusta arvioinnin avulla. Perustaitoja ovat luku- ja kirjoitustaidot, numeeriset taidot ja ongelmanratkaisutaidot teknologisesti kehittyneissä ympäristöissä. Aineisto kerättiin opettajien täydennyskoulutuksessa ja se koostuu opettajien laatimista arviointi- ja oppimistehtävistä sekä reflektoinneista. Aineisto analysoitiin teoriaohjaavalla sisällönanalyysilla. Conceptions of teachership in the professional identity construction of adult educator graduates

The aim of this study was to investigate the conceptions of teachership among graduates (n = 126) from a Finnish higher education study programme called Pedagogical Studies for Adult Educators. The conceptions of teachership comprise notions of teaching and of oneself as a teacher.
