Effect of thermal annealing on the luminescence of defective ZnO nanoparticles synthesized by pulsed laser ablation in water

This work concerns ZnO nanoparticles (NPs), with sizes of tens of nm, produced by ablation with a pulsed Nd:YAG laser of a Zn plate in H2O. TEM images evidence the formation of nanoparticles with sizes of tens of nm. Moreover, HRTEM images and Raman spectra show that the distance between the crystalline planes and the vibrational modes are consistent with ZnO nanocrystal in wurtzite structure. Their optical properties are characterized by two emission bands both excited above the energy gap (3.4 eV): the first at 3.3 eV is associated with excitons recombination, the second at 2.2 eV is proposed to originate from a singly ionized oxygen vacancy. Thermoluminescence response of sodalime glass irradiated with photon and electron beams in the 1-20 Gy range

Abstract The thermoluminescence response of a watch commercial glass was studied after irradiation with photons and electrons, in the range 1–20 Gy, of interest in accidental dosimetry; a linear response was obtained with both beams. This result, together with the satisfactory time stability of the thermoluminescence signal, indicates this glass as a potential material for retrospective dosimetry applications.
Applications and non-idealities of submicron Al–AlOx–Nb tunnel junctions

We have developed a technique to fabricate sub-micron, 0.6µm×0.6µm Al-AlOx-Nb tunnel junctions using a standard e-beam resist, angle evaporation and double oxidation of the tunneling barrier, resulting in high quality niobium, as determined by the the high measured values of the critical temperature TC ∼ 7.5 K and the gap ∆ ∼ 1.3 meV. The devices show great promise for local nanoscale thermometry in the temperature range 1 - 7.5 K. Simulation studies of electronic transport in a-Si:H thin film solar cells

The thin film solar cells in Hydrogenated Amorphous Silicon (a-Si:H) are attractive for cheaper production and used in ultra low cost, high volume applications but have a relatively lower electronic performance. These limitations are mainly due to properties of the a-Si:H and relies on the production technique. In this study we investigate the physical mechanisms which are on the basis of the electronic transport and their relation with the technological processes. The transport-simulation computer program ATLAS (Silvaco) has been used to examine the role of the mid gap defect density in determining the performance of a-Si:H p-i-n homojunction solar cell.

Most current thermoelectric materials have important drawbacks, such as toxicity, scarceness, and peak operating temperatures above 300 °C. Herein, we report the thermoelectric properties of different crystalline phases of Sn-based perovskite thin films. The 2D phase, Cs2SnI4, is obtained through vacuum thermal deposition and easily converted into the black β phase of CsSnI3(B-β CsSnI3) by annealing at 150 °C. B-β CsSnI3is a p-type semiconductor with a figure of merit (ZT) ranging from 0.021 to 0.033 for temperatures below 100 °C, which makes it a promising candidate to power small electronic devices such as wearable sensors which may be interconnected in the so-called Internet of Things.
