From COVID-19 to future electrification: Assessing traffic impacts on air quality by a machine-learning model

The large fluctuations in traffic during the COVID-19 pandemic provide an unparalleled opportunity to assess vehicle emission control efficacy. Here we develop a random-forest regression model, based on the large volume of real-time observational data during COVID-19, to predict surface-level NO(2), O(3), and fine particle concentration in the Los Angeles megacity. Our model exhibits high fidelity in reproducing pollutant concentrations in the Los Angeles Basin and identifies major factors controlling each species. Analytical methodologies for atomic spectrometric determination of metallic oxides in UV sunscreen creams.

In this study, methodologies for determining titanium oxide, zinc oxide and iron oxide are proposed and assayed in commercial sunscreen products. The proposed methodology for TiO2, determination in sunscreens is based on a microwave-assisted treatment for digesting the organic components in a closed teflon reactor in presence of HNO3 and HCl. Titanium is determined by inductive coupled plasma emission spectrometry (ICP-AES). Volcanic gas emissions are intimately linked to the dynamics of magma ascent and outgassing, and, on geological timescales, constitute an important source of volatiles to the Earth's atmosphere. Measurements of gas composition and flux are therefore critical to both volcano monitoring and to determining the contribution of volcanoes to global geochemical cycles. Twenty-one patients 61.2+/-11 years were investigated after myocardial infarction of the anterior wall in 8 cases, inferior in 10 cases, lateral in 2 cases and apical in one case. Simulation of the VUV spectral emission from the JT-60SA divertor

A divertor survey dual-spectrometer is being designed by an EU-Japan team [1] to be installed on JT-60SA [2], the new fusion experiment expected to start operating in 2020. Positioned on an upper port, the primary role of the spectrometer is to analyse the radiation losses in the divertor region and to aid studying the physics of the divertor plasmas, including plasma detachment. VEGF-targeted therapy stably modulates the glycolytic phenotype of tumor cells

Abstract Anti-VEGF therapy perturbs tumor metabolism, severely impairing oxygen, glucose, and ATP levels. In this study, we investigated the effects of anti-VEGF therapy in multiple experimental tumor models that differ in their glycolytic phenotypes to gain insights into optimal modulation of the metabolic features of this therapy. Prolonged treatments induced vascular regression and necrosis in tumor xenograft models, with highly glycolytic tumors becoming treatment resistant more rapidly than poorly glycolytic tumors.
