Emerging Immnunohistochemical evidence for Direct Peripheral Control of Endocannabinoids on the Gastrointestinal Tract and Pancreas of Obese (fa/fa)a…
2012
This research has the objective to investigate immunohistochemical expression of CB1 receptor and its probable changes in Gastroenteropancreatic system (GEP) of obese and lean Zucker rats and understand the endocannabinoid pathophysiological implications in the obesity. Male obese (fa/fa) and lean Zucker rats 6 weeks old were obtained from Harlan Italy Srl; the rats were sacrificed at 8, 12 and 16 weeks old. Normal rats also were sacrificed. Specimens of stomach, jejunum-ileum and pancreas were fixed in Bouin’s mixture and embedded in paraffin; obtained sections were processed with anti-CB1 (Biosource Europe SA) by Streptavidin-Biotin-Complex Method. The findings show that CB1 receptor is e…
CB(1) signaling in forebrain and sympathetic neurons is a key determinant of endocannabinoid actions on energy balance
2010
The endocannabinoid system (ECS) plays a critical role in obesity development. The pharmacological blockade of cannabinoid receptor type 1 (CB(1)) has been shown to reduce body weight and to alleviate obesity-related metabolic disorders. An unsolved question is at which anatomical level CB(1) modulates energy balance and the mechanisms involved in its action. Here, we demonstrate that CB(1) receptors expressed in forebrain and sympathetic neurons play a key role in the pathophysiological development of diet-induced obesity. Conditional mutant mice lacking CB(1) expression in neurons known to control energy balance, but not in nonneuronal peripheral organs, displayed a lean phenotype and res…
Retrieval of evapotranspiration over the Alpilles/ReSeDA experimental site using airborne POLDER sensor and a thermal camera
2005
Abstract Knowledge of land surface evapotranspiration is of prime interest for environmental applications, such as optimizing irrigation water use, especially in arid and semiarid rangelands where water shortage is a critical problem. Numerous methods aiming at estimating evapotranspiration have been proposed in the literature. In the current paper, we assess the potential of the evaporative fraction based on the S-SEBI (Simplified Surface Energy Balance Index) concept for estimating instantaneous evapotranspiration, and extend this potential to the retrieval of daily evapotranspiration (ETd). To this end, a feasible and operational method is developed, which allows mapping instantaneous an…
Environmental and Energy Analysis of Two Orchard Systems: A Case Study in Mediterranean Environment
2022
This paper aimed to analyse and compare the environmental and energy sustainability of two orchards (peach versus kiwifruit) located in Southern Italy using Life Cycle Thinking. To this end, anthropogenic energy, CO2 emissions, biogenic energy and carbon gains were also considered through Life Cycle Assessment methodology and Energy Analysis. The C–CO2 balance was calculated as the difference between total C–CO2 stored in soil and trees, at the end of their life cycles, and orchards Carbon Footprint (CF). The results showed that the production of 1 kg of peaches caused minor impacts, especially with reference to CF (0.124 kg CO2 eq against 0.145 for kiwifruit), while it required 1.56 MJ of …

Indo-French High-resolution Thermal Infrared Space Mission for Earth Natural Resources Assessment and Monitoring -Concept and Definition of TRISHNA
2019
The Indian and French Space Agencies, ISRO and CNES, have conceptualized a space-borne Thermal Infrared Reflectance (TIR) mission, TRISHNA (Thermal infRared Imaging Satellite for High-resolution Natural Resource Assessment). The primary design drivers of TRISHNA are the monitoring of (i) terrestrial water stress and use, and of (ii) coastal and continental water. A suit of four TIR bands and six optical bands is planned. The TIR bands will be centred at 8.6 μm, 9.1 μm, 10.3 μm and 11.5 μm to provide noon-night global observations at 57m nadir resolution over land and coastal regions. The field of view (FOV) is ±34° and the orbit of 761&thin…
Energy efficient model for biogas production in farm scale
2011
Energy efficient solutions for six farm biogas production was found by calculating mass and energy balance in different scenarios. Raw materials in biogas production were cow manure and grass silage that were produced in these farms. There were calculated mass and energy balances on average for one year biogas prouduction that consisted of grass silage production, raw material transportation and biogas production in the biogas plant. In addition, direct greenhouse gases from biogas production were estimated. The direct mass and energy flows were calculated. It turned out that one input energy unit can produce 5.0 to 5.5 energy units as heat and electricity. Biogas reactor consumed heat from…
