Robust control of stochastic systems against bounded disturbances with application to flight control

This paper investigates the problems of state observer design and observer-based integral sliding-mode control (SMC) for a class of Itô stochastic systems subject to simultaneous input and output disturbances. A new type of sliding-mode-based descriptor observer method is developed to approximate the system state and disturbance vectors. An integral-type SMC scheme is proposed based on the state estimation to stabilize the overall system. Sensitivity and uncertainty analysis, although can be of primarily importance in mathematical modelling approaches, are scarcely applied in the field of membrane bioreactor (MBR). An integrated mathematical model for MBR is applied with the final aim to pin down sources of uncertainty in MBR modelling. ROTOR FLUX OPTIMAL ESTIMATION FOR INDUCTION MOTOR CONTROL

Abstract The aim of this paper is to analyze and design reduced order observers of the rotor flux of induction motors. The design requirements are: a) the convergence rate of the rotor flux estimation error; b) a low sensitivity to stator and rotor resistance variations; c) a low sensitivity to errors due to the implementation of the observers on microprocessor-based systems. It is shown that, in order to satisfy the requirements a)-c), it is sufficient to solve a constrained optimization problem according to a criterion in which these requirements appear explicitly. The implementation of the observer is discussed. The observer is tested by simulation and experiments.

Underlay cognitive networks should follow strict interference thresholds to operate in parallel with primary networks. This constraint limits their transmission power and eventually the coverage area. Therefore, in this paper, we first design a new approach for asynchronous narrow-band interference (NBI) estimation and mitigation in orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing cognitive radio networks that does not require prior knowledge of the NBI characteristics. A 3D imaging technique using a high speed binocular stereovision system was developed in combination with corresponding image processing algorithms for accurate determination of the parameters of particles leaving the spinning disks of centrifugal fertilizer spreaders. Validation of the stereo-matching algorithm using a virtual 3D stereovision simulator indicated an error of less than 2 pixels for 90% of the particles. The setup was validated using the cylindrical spread pattern of an experimental spreader. An induction motor speed measurement method based on current harmonic analysis with the Chirp-Z Transform

This paper presents a new method to measure motor speed by means of frequency estimation of rotor slot spectral components in the supply current of squirrel single-cage induction motors. The novelty of the method consists in the harmonic analysis of the supply current by means of the chirp-Z transform (CZT). The advantages are improved accuracy due to better spectral resolution and resolvability. Moreover, a shorter observation window is required, thus reducing errors related to nonstationary current signals. The experimental results are presented to validate the proposed method and to make a comparison with a similar method based on the fast Fourier transform (FFT).

Abstract Purpose In gap-acceptance theory the critical and the follow-up headways have a significant role in determining roundabout entry capacities which in turn depend on circulating flow rates under a specified arrival headway distribution. Calculation considers single mean values of the gap-acceptance parameters, neglecting the inherent variations in these random variables and providing a single value of entry capacity. The Use of Accelerometers and Gyroscopes to Estimate Hip and Knee Angles on Gait Analysis

In this paper the performance of a sensor system, which has been developed to estimate hip and knee angles and the beginning of the gait phase, have been investigated. The sensor system consists of accelerometers and gyroscopes. A new algorithm was developed in order to avoid the error accumulation due to the gyroscopes drift and vibrations due to the ground contact at the beginning of the stance phase. The proposed algorithm have been tested and compared to some existing algorithms on over-ground walking trials with a commercial device for assisted gait. The results have shown the good accuracy of the angles estimation, also in high angle rate movement.
