Transport equations and quasi-invariant flows on the Wiener space

2010

Abstract We shall investigate on vector fields of low regularity on the Wiener space, with divergence having low exponential integrability. We prove that the vector field generates a flow of quasi-invariant measurable maps with density belonging to the space L log L . An explicit expression for the density is also given.

Quantity Estimation Based on Numerical Cues in the Mealworm Beetle (Tenebrio molitor)

2012

In this study, we used a biologically relevant experimental procedure to ask whether mealworm beetles (Tenebrio molitor) are spontaneously capable of assessing quantities based on numerical cues. Like other insect species, mealworm beetles adjust their reproductive behavior (i.e., investment in mate guarding) according to the perceived risk of sperm competition (i.e., probability that a female will mate with another male). To test whether males have the ability to estimate numerosity based on numerical cues, we staged matings between virgin females and virgin males in which we varied the number of rival males the experimental male had access to immediately preceding mating as a cue to sperm…

A low cost and easy re-configurable instrument for power quality survey

2004

In this document the development of a low cost and user friendly PC-based instrument for power quality measurement is proposed, according to IEC 61000-4-7 and standard IEC 61000-4-30. It is an easily re-configurable instrument able to measure harmonics, interharmonics and amplitude disturbances and supply unbalance. In order to verify its accuracy, the instrument has been tested according standard test procedures, by means of a built-up calibration test bench.

Modelling dendro-anthracological parameters with dendrochronological reference datasets: interrogating the applicability of anthraco-typology to asse…

2020

International audience; Aleppo pine (Pinus halepensis Miller) is present in the palaeoenvironmental records of Mallorca (Balearic Islands, Western Mediterranean) since the Early Holocene. It is also documented in the archaeological charcoal analysis (aka anthracology) of early prehistoric sites, but it was especially exploited at certain sites during the Late Iron Age. However, different woodland exploitation strategies cannot be deciphered purely through the taxonomical identification of charcoal fragments, so it is difficult to assess if the presence of Aleppo pine in archaeological assemblages is due to specific social management strategies (branches and/or trunks exploitation). Anthraco…

Integration of different cardiac electrophysiological models into a single simulation pipeline

2012

Clinical translation of computational models of the heart has been hampered by the absence of complete and rigorous technical and clinical validation, as well as benchmarking of the developed tools. To address this issue, a dataset containing the cardiac anatomy and fibre orientations from magnetic resonance images (MRI), as well as epicardial transmembrane potentials from optical mapping acquired on ex-vivo porcine hearts, have previously been made available to the community. Image processing techniques were developed to integrate MRI images with electrical information. Different models were tested and compared with the integrated data1, including: i) a new methodology to customize and reg…

Coordination of Wage Bargaining, Exchange Rate Stability and External Adjustment

2016

The literature on the determinants of the rate of current account reversion has been limited to examining the role of exchange rate regimes. We propose that the degree of coordination of wage bargaining affects the speed of current account adjustment. Our point estimates are economically and statistically significant, suggesting that fragmented firm-level wage bargaining facilitates external adjustment. We also find a strong negative interaction between the effects of coordination of wage bargaining and exchange rate stability on the rate of current account reversion.

Robust Depth Estimation for Light Field Microscopy

2019

Light field technologies have seen a rise in recent years and microscopy is a field where such technology has had a deep impact. The possibility to provide spatial and angular information at the same time and in a single shot brings several advantages and allows for new applications. A common goal in these applications is the calculation of a depth map to reconstruct the three-dimensional geometry of the scene. Many approaches are applicable, but most of them cannot achieve high accuracy because of the nature of such images: biological samples are usually poor in features and do not exhibit sharp colors like natural scene. Due to such conditions, standard approaches result in noisy depth ma…

DEFINITION ET ETUDE DES PERFORMANCES D'UN DETECTEUR DE STRUCTURES CURVILINEAIRES. APPLICATION A LA STEREOSCOPIE ET LA DETECTION D'OBJETS FILAIRES

2008

The work presented in this paper falls under the domain of matching. In this context, we try to show the interest of using the curvilinear regions in order to enhance the global performance of various matching applications. A brand new detector for curvilinear regions is introduced (CRD), along with the specific curvilinear regions descriptor (CRD) required. Performance evaluations were done in two parts: First, we evaluated and compared the segmentations performances of our detector, in particular on a retina vessels segmentation application. And second, we estimated the matching performances using K. Mykolajczyk toolkit. This methodology helps obtaining intrinsic performances and comparin…

Age estimation using the radiographic visibility of the periodontal ligament in lower third molars in a Portuguese population.

2014

Objectives: The mineralization of third molars has been used repeatedly as a method of forensic age estimation. However, this procedure is of little use beyond age 18, especially to determinate if an individual is older than 21 years of age; thus, the development of new approaches is essential. The visibility of the periodontal ligament has been suggested for this purpose. The aim of this work was to determine the usefulness of this methodology in a Portuguese population. Study Design: Periodontal ligament visibility was assessed in the lower third molars, using a sample of 487 orthopantomograms, 228 of which belonging to females and 259 to males, from a Portuguese population aged 17 to 31 …

Contribution to a marker-free system for human motion analysis

2002

This paper presents a novel approach to human gait analysis using a marker-free system. The devised acquisition system is composed of three synchronized and calibrated charge coupled device cameras. The aim of this work is to recognize in gray level image sequences the leg of a walking human and to reconstruct it in the three-dimensional space. An articulated threedimensional (3D) model of the human body, based on the use of tapered superquadric curves, is first introduced. A motion-based segmentation, using morphological operators, is then applied to the image sequences in order to extract the boundaries of the leg in motion. A reconstruction process, based on the use of a least median of …
