Finite-size scaling and the crossover to mean-field critical behavior in the two-dimensional Ising model with medium-ranged interactions.

Critical amplitudes in finite-size scaling relations show a singular dependence on the range of the interactions, R. The respective power laws are predicted from phenomenological crossover scaling considerations. These predictions are tested by Monte Carlo simulations for medium-ranged Ising square lattices. It is speculated that some deviations between the simulation results and corresponding predictions may be due to logarithmic corrections.
A thermodynamics-based formulation of gradient-dependent plasticity

Abstract A nonlocal thermodynamic theoretical framework is provided as a basis for a consistent formulation of gradient-dependent plasticity in which a scalar internal variable measuring the material isotropic hardening/softening state is the only nonlocal variable. Internal-variable constitutive model for rate-independent plasticity with hardening saturation surface

An elastic-plastic material model with internal variables and thermodynamic potential, not admitting hardening states out of a saturation surface, is presented. The existence of such a saturation surface in the internal variables space — a consequence of the boundedness of the energy that can be stored in the material's internal micro-structure — encompasses, in case of general kinematic/isotropic hardening, a one-parameter family of envelope surfaces in the stress space, which in turn is enveloped by a limit surface. Abstract The aerosol optical depth (AOD) and Angstrom exponent (α) obtained from MODIS Terra and Aqua over the coastal urban site of Burjassot (Spain) during the period 2002–2011 have been compared with retrievals from AERONET (AErosol RObotic NETwork) and ESR (European Skynet Radiometers) in order to investigate the performance of MODIS algorithms over land and ocean, respectively. Long term analysis of the columnar and surface aerosol relationship at an urban European coastal site

Abstract Simultaneous PM2.5, PM10 and columnar (ground and satellite based) AOD measurements have been analyzed at Burjassot site in the metropolitan area of Valencia (Spain) during the period 2007–2016. The site is representative of a south European city in the Western Mediterranean coastal area, influenced by local urban pollution but also from frequent Saharan dust events. First, multiannual statistics were performed to characterize the main aerosol burden characteristics. Explaining scale effects for runoff and erosion improves our understanding of hydrological and erosion processes. In this investigation, plot-scale effects on event runoff per unit area, Qe, sediment concentration, Ce, and soil loss per unit area, SLe, were checked at the Sparacia (Italy) site. In-situ integrating nephelometer measurements of the scattering properties of atmospheric aerosols at an urban coastal site in western Mediterranean

Abstract Measurements of aerosol scattering properties obtained during the period from March 2006 to December 2010 at Valencia (Spain) have been analyzed. The total aerosol scattering (σsp) and backscattering (σbsp) coefficients were measured using a TSI Model 3563 three-wavelength integrating nephelometer. From the measurements of σsp and σbsp, it was possible to determine also the scattering Angstrom exponent (αs). For the entire measurement period, the mean values (±standard deviation) at 550 nm are: 80 ± 50 Mm−1 for σsp; 8 ± 5 Mm−1 for σbsp; and 1.6 ± 0.3 for αs. Fractal time random walks with generalized Mittag-Leffler functions as waiting time densities are studied. This class of fractal time processes is characterized by a dynamical critical exponent 0<ω≤1, and is equivalently described by a fractional master equation with time derivative of noninteger order ω. Exact Greens functions corresponding to fractional diffusion are obtained using Mellin transform techniques. The Greens functions are expressible in terms of general H-functions. For ω<1 they are singular at the origin and exhibit a stretched Gaussian form at infinity. The paraelectric and antiferroelectric phases of ${\mathrm{Rb}}_{3}{\mathrm{D}(\mathrm{S}\mathrm{O}}_{4}{)}_{2}$ and ${\mathrm{Rb}}_{3}{\mathrm{H}(\mathrm{S}\mathrm{O}}_{4}{)}_{2}$ were investigated using rubidium NMR. The angle dependence of the second order quadrupole shifted central ${}^{87}\mathrm{Rb}$ transitions was recorded at 300 K. It was found to be in full agreement with the symmetry elements of a monoclinic $A2/a$ structure. The temperature dependence of the magnitude and asymmetry of the electrical field gradient (EFG) tensors at the Rb sites was determined using powder samples and revealed no differences between protonated and deuterated specimens. The exact Lyapunov dimension formula for the Lorenz system for a positive measure set of parameters, including classical values, was analytically obtained first by G.A. Leonov in 2002. Leonov used the construction technique of special Lyapunov-type functions, which was developed by him in 1991 year.
