Nonostante l'ampia produzione scientifica sull'argomento, la governance sconta ancora una consistente vaghezza dei tentativi di definizione e il termine viene utilizzato per indicare fenomeni disparati. Māwardī and Machiavelli : Reflections on Power in their Mirrors for Princes

Abstract Despite their apparently contradictory views on religion’s role in statecraft, and despite being separated by both history and geography, Al-Mawardi and Machiavelli approach the question of political power in an unapologetically direct fashion. This paper interrogates their philosophies and the way in which their highly unstable social settings and their rather more stable religious traditions intersect in two of their key texts, The Ordinances of Government and The Prince, respectively. These texts demonstrate that even early Muslim tradition had a theory of impersonal governance, whereas 500 years later Europeans had by no means given up on narratives of personified power.
European Politics of Food Origin. A Semiotic Analysis of Geographical Indications

This chapter investigates the relationship between food products and origin places within the European Union food policies. In the 1990s, the EU established a Geographical Indication (GI) system, constituted of a set of food quality brands and a legal framework for food, wine and spirits. This system, defined as a sui generis model by insiders, entails a strong EU government participation in the typical food symbolic and material modelling. The sui generis model establishes a government monopoly on the place-based labels registration and institutes an atypical kind of intellectual property based on geographic marks. The aim of this article is to investigate the Gramsci’s interpretation of Marx, emphasizing both a series of training initiatives promoted by the Sardinian intellectual in order to spread and popularize his thought. Gramsci identifies some pedagogical consequences of the education principle of the “philosophy of praxis”.
