Navigated percutaneous screw fixation of the pelvis with O-arm 2: two years' experience.

2020

Aim To evaluate the case series of the patients operated with percutaneous fixation by the navigation system based on 3D fluo-roscopic images, to assess the precision of a surgical implant and functional outcome of patients. Methods A retrospective study of pelvic ring fractures in a 2-year period included those treated with the use of the O-Arm 2 in com-bination with the Stealth Station 8. Pelvic fractures were classifi-ed according to the Tile and the Young-Burgess classification. All patients were examined before surgery, with X-rays and CT scans, and three days after surgery with additional CT scan. The positioning of the screws was evaluated according to the Smith score, the outcome wi…

Inguinal Hernia: Defect Obliteration with the 3D Dynamic Regenerative Scaffold Proflor™.

2021

Prosthetic inguinal hernia repair presents significant challenges. Some of these, such as mesh fixation and quality of the biologic response, are still debated among surgeons. For example, there is no strong consensus regarding a specific condition that characterizes the surgical procedure during herniorrhaphy. This issue concerns management of the hernia defect, which in conventional hernia repair with flat meshes remains patent. However, a critical analysis of typical postoperative complications after inguinal hernia repair reveals that some of these adverse events are related to patency of the hernial opening. Postoperative discomfort, pain with specific movements and even hernia recurre…

Serotyping and genotyping of encapsulated Escherichia coli K1 sepsis isolates with a monoclonal IgG anti K1 antibody and K1 gene probes

1987

Among infectious diseases caused by E. coli the capsular type K1 plays a predominant role. E. coli K1 isolates account for 80% of cases of E. coli neonatal meningitis and 30% of E. coli sepsis strains. Serotyping of K1 strains has conventionally relied upon the use of K1-specific bacteriophages or serum agar methods with polyvalent anti K1 serum. In the study present here, 187 E. coli sepsis isolates have been analysed for production of the K1 antigen using K1 phages, K1 serum agar plates and Latex agglutination and ELISA using an IgG2a anti K1 monoclonal antibody. In total, 33 sepsis isolates (about 18%) were identified as K1 positive, with three of these strains proving negative in all te…

4D Clifford algebra based on fixed-size representation

2008

Geometric algebra (also known as Clifford algebra) is a powerful mathematical tool that offers a natural and direct way to model geometric objects and their transformations. It is gaining growing attention in different research fields as physics, robotics, CAD/CAM and computer graphics. In particular, 4D geometric algebra implements homogeneous coordinates, which are used to model 3D scenery in most computer graphics applications. The research work on Clifford algebra is actually aimed at finding efficient implementations of the algebra. This paper wants to give a contribution to this research effort by proposing a direct hardware support for geometric algebra operators. The paper introduce…

Exploiting Visual Saliency Algorithms for Object-Based Attention: A New Color and Scale-Based Approach

2017

Visual Saliency aims to detect the most important regions of an image from a perceptual point of view. More in detail, the goal of Visual Saliency is to build a Saliency Map revealing the salient subset of a given image by analyzing bottom-up and top-down factors of Visual Attention. In this paper we proposed a new method for Saliency detection based on colour and scale analysis, extending our previous work based on SIFT spatial density inspection. We conducted several experiments to study the relationships between saliency methods and the object attention processes and we collected experimental data by tracking the eye movements of thirty viewers in the first three seconds of observation o…

Il precariato nel pubblico impiego: il caso dei modelli viventi

2022

Following a brief excursus of the jurisprudential and scholars’ perspective on the subordinate employment relationship, the note analyses the case of 'living models,' addressing the issue of precariousness in public employment, and the sanctioning consequences from an illegitimate reiteration of fixed-term contracts in the public sector.

Random Stability of an Additive-Quadratic-Quartic Functional Equation

2010

Using the fixed point method, we prove the generalized Hyers-Ulam stability of the following additive-quadratic-quartic functional equation f(x+2y)+f(x−2y)=2f(x+y)+2f(−x−y)+2f(x−y)+2f(y−x)−4f(−x)−2f(x)+f(2y)+f(−2y)−4f(y)−4f(−y) in complete random normed spaces.
