No data have published concerning the procedure of driving in intramedullary nails. An extensive experimental device consisting of a contact-free distance measurement, a dynamograph connected to strain gages and an accelerometer now enabled this investigation. Among other things we determined the range of sliding friction for each stroke at different levels of nail-progression. Depending of the depth of nail-progression forces between 200 N und 400 N were measured. When the nail is stuck these values rise to over 1000 N. The sliding-process lasted between 10 ms and 20 ms. The enchondroma is a benign tumor of the endosteal cartilage and it is common in young-adult patients. These tumors are usually diagnosed when a pathologic fracture occurs at the site of the lesion or when they are accidentally discovered during investigations performed for other reasons. This report describes the case of a patient with an enchondroma of the external tibial plateau. Diagnosis was made treating an ipsilateral supracondylar femoral fracture caused by a traffic accident.
Iatrogenic lumbar artery pseudoaneurysm after lumbar transpedicular fixation: Case report

Only a few cases of iatrogenic lumbar injury have been reported in the literature. A 58-year-old male with severe back pain was admitted to our department. The patient was qualified for the transpedicular stabilization with interbody fixation at L4/L5 and L5/S1 levels. On the first day after surgery, the patient was mobile and reported significant pain relief. He was discharged the same day. After 2 weeks, the patient returned with severe right lower abdominal pain and radicular pain in his right leg. Bridge-plating with its advantages in terms of vascularity and bone healing is a well established procedure today in the treatment of comminuted femoral fractures. Bridge-plating means that the fracture site is not interfered with during the operative procedure.
