Robust and Decoupled Position and Stiffness Control for Electrically-Driven Articulated Soft Robots

2022

The control of articulated soft robots, i.e. robots with flexible joints and rigid links, presents a challenge due to their in- trinsic elastic elements and nonlinear force-deflection dependency. This letter first proposes a discrete-time delayed unknown input- state observer based on a nominal robot model that reconstructs the total torque disturbance vector, resulting from the imperfect knowledge of the elastic torque characteristic, external torques, and other model uncertainties. Then, it introduces a robust controller, that actively compensates for the estimated uncertainty and allows bounded stability for the tracking of independent link position and joint stiffness reference signals.…

Experimental investigation on dispersion mechanisms in rigid and flexible vegetated beds

2018

Vegetation in channels strongly affects flow structure and turbulence, with consequences on the hydrological storage of nutrients and chemical tracers, the shelter of stream biota as well as the trapping or transport of sediments. At the same time, all these phenomena are inevitably subjected to alteration of hydrological conditions in fluvial systems due to climate change. The present study intends to provide a thorough investigation into the processes of transport and dispersion induced by flow turbulence within the vegetation structure. Specifically, velocity measurements in vegetated channels were intensively conducted and analyzed in the case of both flexible submerged and rigid emerge…

Comparing Surface and Fine-Wire Electromyography Activity of Lower Leg Muscles at Different Walking Speeds.

2019

Ankle plantar flexor muscles are active in the stance phase of walking to propel the body forward. Increasing walking speed requires increased plantar flexor excitation, frequently assessed using surface electromyography (EMG). Despite its popularity, validity of surface EMG applied on shank muscles is mostly unclear. Thus, we examined the agreement between surface and intramuscular EMG at a range of walking speeds. Ten participants walked overground at slow, preferred, fast, and maximum walking speeds (1.01 ± 0.13, 1.43 ± 0.19, 1.84 ± 0.23, and 2.20 ± 0.38 m s–1, respectively) while surface and fine-wire EMG activities of flexor hallucis longus (FHL), soleus (SOL), medial gastrocnemius (MG…

Pētījumā piedalījās 130 respondenti ( 77 sievietes, 53 vīrieši) vecumā no 20 līdz 50 gadiem. Pētījumā tika izmantotas trīs aptaujas- Kognitīvo izkropļojumu skala (Cognitive Distortions Scale (CDS), Covin, Dozois, Ogniewiez & Seeds, 2011), Kognitīvās kontroles un elastības aptauja (The Cognitive Control & Flexibility Questionnaire; CCFQ; Gabrys, Tabri, Anisman & Matheson, 2018) un Apzinātības kognitīvā un afektīvā aptauja (Cognitive and Afective Mindfulness Scale (CAMS- R), Feldman, Hayes, Kumar, Greeson & Laurenceau, 2006). Coping with Asymmetric Shocks in the EMU: The Role of Labour Market Flexibility

2013

The chapter discusses the economic conditions for the success of EMU when there is still a need for structural reforms in the markets of goods and services, and factors of production. In view of asymmetric shocks, experience shows that behaviour in nominal and real wage growth resulted in increased unemployment throughout the EU15. Fiscal policy, on the other hand, could mitigate to some extent the burden of wage adjustment, and could play an important role in improving productivity. In general, however, smooth shock-absorption requires a flexible wage formation process to circumvent low employment levels, but the risk of hysteresis would remain. To avoid the accumulation of wage and labour…

"Being Flexible": graduates Facing Changes in Their Work Environment

2011

According to the crucial importance of innovation for modern economies, the role of graduates regarding innovation appears to be a major topic when their performances in the labour market at stake. Five main questions are addressed in this chapter: (1) What does innovation mean? (2) Which organisations are likely to be more innovative? (3) What role do Higher Education graduates play regarding innovation? (4) Are they equipped to do develop innovation? (5) Which are the occupations more related to innovation, and are innovative activities rewarded? The results presented in this chapter confirm that higher education graduates are crucial actors in the innovation process. The jobs of innovati…

Identifying Resilient and Non-Resilient Labour Conditions in Europe Using Qualitative Comparative Analysis

2016

Based on the concept of labour market resilience, this paper is aimed to determine the combination of initial conditions behind resilient and non-resilient labour markets after the financial crisis in 2008 in Europe. We start from the assumption that some initial conditions in 2007 are crucial to achieve a specific labour result when a shock appears. In this sense, the effect of temporary employment in cyclical sectors, labour market flexibility, the level of education among the workforce, and the expenditure on Labour Market Policies (LMP) have been tested using crisp-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (csQCA) in 25 European countries. Whilst our results do not explain labour market resi…

Lavoro a termine e contrattazione collettiva

2014

Analysing the evolution and the regulation of fixed-term contract, considered as a symbol of flexibility and, at the same time, as a means to increase employment, the Author particularly examines the role played by collective bargaining, that sometimes is connected to a large legal referral, sometimes has to op…

The evolution of Catalan inchoative verbs from the 13th century to the 16th century

2021
