Real-time smoothing of car-following data through sensor-fusion techniques

2011

Abstract Observation of vehicles kinematics is an important task for many applications in ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems). It is at the base of both theoretical analyses and application developments, especially in case of positioning and tracing/tracking of vehicles, car-following analyses and models, navigation and other ATIS (Advanced Traveller Information Systems), ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control) systems, CAS and CWS (Collision Avoidance Systems and Collision Warning Systems) and other ADAS (Advanced Driving Assistance Systems). Modern technologies supply low-cost devices able to collect time series of kinematic and positioning data with medium to very high frequency. Even more da…

Reflectance Measurement Method Based on Sensor Fusion of Frame-Based Hyperspectral Imager and Time-of-Flight Depth Camera

2022

Hyperspectral imaging and distance data have previously been used in aerial, forestry, agricultural, and medical imaging applications. Extracting meaningful information from a combination of different imaging modalities is difficult, as the image sensor fusion requires knowing the optical properties of the sensors, selecting the right optics and finding the sensors’ mutual reference frame through calibration. In this research we demonstrate a method for fusing data from Fabry–Perot interferometer hyperspectral camera and a Kinect V2 time-of-flight depth sensing camera. We created an experimental application to demonstrate utilizing the depth augmented hyperspectral data to measu…

Successful adaptation of immigrants to Finland : can cultural fusion work?

2017

Immigration numbers in Finland are growing, more than doubling in the past decade, with immigrants arriving from increasingly diverse regions of the world. An attempt should be made to understand what are the factors that lead immigrants to finding happiness, and to mitigate the apparent rise in assimilation and anti-immigrant attitude in Finland. Most of the interviewees (n=16; 7 females, 9 males) have embedded themselves in dispersed communities, with connections from the workplace, studies, or common interests (e.g., religion, hobbies) that rarely including their immediate neighbors. Several reported a comfort in their own uniqueness. Some pointed to the kindness of Finns as integral to …

ALS-RELATED FUS PROTEIN IS MISLOCALIZED TO CYTOPLASM AND RECRUITED INTO STRESS GRANULES IN FIBROBLASTS OF ASYMPTOMATIC FUS P525L MUTATION CARRIERS

Symptoms onset in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) occur when over 70% of motor neurons is already lost, suggesting a relatively long pre-symptomatic phase. The description of several genes linked to ALS (e.g., SOD1, FUS, TARDP, C9orf72) has now allowed identification of pre-symptomatic carriers. These pre-symptomatic (or even preclinical) carriers can be followed up with the aim to identify the very early clinical disease-related changes or a valuable biomarker. These efforts seem at present the best approach for the implementation of an early symptomatic therapy or for the disease prevention. In this work, we studied the expression of FUS protein in cultured skin fibroblasts from pre-s…

Considering lithium-ion battery 3D-printing via thermoplastic material extrusion and polymer powder bed fusion

2021

In this paper, the ability to 3D print lithium-ion batteries through thermoplastic material extrusion and polymer powder bed fusion is considered. Focused on the formulation of positive electrodes composed of polypropylene, LiFePO4 as active material, and conductive additives, advantages and drawbacks of both additive manufacturing technologies, are thoroughly discussed from the electrochemical, electrical, morphological and mechanical perspectives. Based on these preliminary results, strategies to further optimize the electrochemical performances are proposed. Through a comprehensive modeling study, the enhanced electrochemical suitability at high current densities of various complex three…

The ARF GAPs ELMOD1 and ELMOD3 act at the Golgi and Cilia to Regulate Ciliogenesis and Ciliary Protein Traffic

2021

ABSTRACTELMODs are a family of three mammalian paralogs that display GTPase activating protein (GAP) activity towards a uniquely broad array of ADP-ribosylation factor (ARF) family GTPases that includes ARF-like (ARL) proteins. ELMODs are ubiquitously expressed in mammalian tissues, highly conserved across eukaryotes, and ancient in origin, being present in the last eukaryotic common ancestor. We described functions of ELMOD2 in immortalized mouse embryonic fibroblasts (MEFs) in the regulation of cell division, microtubules, ciliogenesis, and mitochondrial fusion. Here, using similar strategies with the paralogs ELMOD1 and ELMOD3, we identify novel functions and locations of these cell regu…

A Hybrid Multigroup Coclustering Recommendation Framework Based on Information Fusion

2015

Collaborative Filtering (CF) is one of the most successful algorithms in recommender systems. However, it suffers from data sparsity and scalability problems. Although many clustering techniques have been incorporated to alleviate these two problems, most of them fail to achieve further significant improvement in recommendation accuracy. First of all, most of them assume each user or item belongs to a single cluster. Since usually users can hold multiple interests and items may belong to multiple categories, it is more reasonable to assume that users and items can join multiple clusters (groups), where each cluster is a subset of like-minded users and items they prefer. Furthermore, most of…

Linear fusion of interrupted reports in cooperative spectrum sensing for cognitive radio networks

2015

Interrupted reporting has recently been introduced as an effective method to increase the energy efficiency of cooperative spectrum sensing schemes in cognitive radio networks. In this paper, joint optimization of the reporting and fusion phases in a cooperative sensing with interrupted reporting is considered. This optimization aims at finding the best weights used at the fusion center to construct a linear fusion of the received interrupted reports, jointly with Bernoulli distributions governing the statistical behavior of the interruptions. The problem is formulated by using the deflection criterion and as a nonconvex quadratic program which is then solved for a suboptimal solution, in a…
