In adult males, there is a clear association between physiological levels of endogenous sex hormones and physical performance. Changes in power curve shapes as an indicator of fatigue during dynamic contractions.

The purpose of this study was to analyze exercise-induced leg fatigue during a dynamic fatiguing task by examining the shapes of power vs. time curves through the combined use of several statistical methods: B-spline smoothing, functional principal components and (supervised and unsupervised) classification. In addition, granulometric size distributions were also computed to allow for comparison of curves coming from different subjects. Abstract Infrared thermography (IRT) has gained popularity in sports medicine for determining whether changes in skin temperature relate to pain and muscle damage. Such a relationship would support IRT as a non-invasive method to monitor these physiological responses. However, the literature remains controversial. Observer independent analysis of cerebral glucose metabolism in patients with chronic fatigue syndrome.

Objectives: To evaluate cerebral glucose metabolism, assessed by 18-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET), in patients with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), using an observer independent analytical approach; and to characterise any observed alterations by correlating them with neuropsychological deficits. Methods: 26 patients (13 female, 13 male) were examined. They all fulfilled the CDC diagnostic criteria for CFS. Their ages ranged from 26 to 61 years (mean (SD) age, 43 (9.3) years). Effect of electrode location on surface electromyography changes due to eccentric elbow flexor exercise.

Experiments were carried out to determine whether the location of electrodes has an effect on eccentric exercise–induced changes in surface electromyography (sEMG) variables in the biceps brachii muscle. sEMG signals were recorded with a grid of 64 electrodes before and up to 4 days post-exercise. Root mean square (RMS) and mean power frequency (MNF) were calculated for: (1) each channel; (2) as an average of all channels; and (3) as an average of individual channel rows and columns. STUDY DESIGN: Intervention study on healthy human subjects. OBJECTIVE: To determine whether reflex activation of the back muscles is influenced by muscle fatigue or soft tissue creep in the spine. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: Reflex contraction of the back muscles normally acts to limit spinal flexion, and hence protect the underlying spine from injury.
