Umbilical artery blood flow velocity waveforms during variable decelerations of the fetal heart rate

Blood flow velocities of the umbilical arteries were measured by Doppler ultrasonography during variable decelerations of the fetal heart rate. The flow velocity waveforms, being normal between uterine contractions, showed either an unchanged flow velocity waveform with an exclusive fetal heart rate effect on end-diastolic velocities or a rapid change to absent and reverse diastolic flow during the decelerations, indicating an abrupt increase in placental resistance with a halt in placental perfusion. Objective: To report our experience with the hybrid external fixator in emergency. Methods: We assessed 80 cases of pilon fracture treated with the external fixator during the period of January 2009 and December 2016:55 men (69%) and 30 women (33%) with a mean age of 40 years (range between 16 and 70). About 45 occurred as isolated trauma, 35 instead were politrauma. Each patient underwent standard radiographic examination and a CT examination. Modern excavations of settlement sites from the end of the First Iron Age and the beginning of the second, together with a re-examination of those undertaken in the past, permit us to better approach some material that has traditionally been neglected as a result of its unpromising aspect: notably some of the iron material. This article will attempt to show the diversity of this material, and some new methods permitting its quantification. The aim is to deepen our understanding of the role and status of this metal in Hallstatt society by a consideration of the material from occupation sites as opposed to funerary monuments.
