Micro‐tomographic characterization of composite recycled glass‐silicone foams for applications in civil engineering

Noninvasive X‐ray micro‐computed tomography was applied for a complete quantitative and qualitative analysis of the cellular structure of composite foams constituted by a silicone matrix and a glass production waste filler. Composite foams with different glass filler weight content in the range 0–80% were synthesized and characterized. The tomographic analysis was employed in order to assess the structural heterogeneities, void fraction values, and bubble size distribution for all composite foams. Investigation on the behaviour of fully thermoplastic composite sandwich beams under concentrated loads

The recent development of new low cost manufacturing processes adopting thermoplastic matrices in the production of structural long fibre reinforced laminates is fostering an increasing interest towards this class of materials. The automotive sector in particular is attracted by the high energy absorbing, damage tolerance performances and manufacturing and recycling potentials of structural thermoplastic composites. In this study a number of fully thermoplastic sandwich beams have been manufactured in order to investigate flexural and shear rigidity performances as well as the indentation behavior under static concentrated loads.

This work is concerned with the theoretical and experimental study of the acoustical properties of macroscopically homogenous and inhomogeneous porous media as well as their mechanical response to impacts. The model of Johnson - Champoux - Allard appeared adapted for the acoustical modeling. Rigid low-density closed-cell polyurethane (PU) foams are widely used in both thermal insulation and structural applications. The sustainability of PU foam production can be increased by using bio-based components and fillers that ensure both enhanced mechanical properties and higher renewable material content. Such bio-based foams were produced using polyols derived from rapeseed oil and microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) fibers as filler. Catalytic effect of transition metals (copper, iron, and nickel) on the foaming and properties of sugar-based carbon foams

Abstract Recently, bio-based carbon foams have gained much interest in many chemical industry fields because of their unique structure and properties. This study provides new information on the effects of catalytic metals (iron, nickel, and copper) on the foaming process.
