Vulnerabilità, concetto di diritto e approccio clinico-legale
2019
Does a clinical legal approach tell us something interesting about the nature and the concept of law? Is it possible to re-think the relationship between law and morals starting from the legal clinics experience? Is the juxtaposition between doctors and jurists convincing? These are the main questions that will be addressed here. They are questions concerning legal epistemology and legal philosophy in the strict sense that seems not to be so interesting for clinical jurists. Indeed, clinical jurists above all emphasize the importance of legal clinics from the viewpoint of education and social justice, but neglect the contribution that a clinical legal method can offer with respect to the kn…
In vivo triceps surae and quadriceps femoris muscle function in a squat jump and counter movement jump
2000
An optic fibre method was used to measure in humans in vivo Achilles (ATF) and patellar tendon forces (PTF) during submaximal squat jumps (SJ) and counter movement jumps (CMJ). Normal two-legged jumps on a force plate and one-legged jumps on a sledge apparatus were made by four volunteers. Kinetics, kinematics, and muscle activity from seven muscles were recorded. The loading patterns of the tendomuscular system differed among the jumping conditions, but were similar when the jumping height was varied. Peak PTF were greater than ATF in each condition. In contrast to earlier simulation studies it was observed that tendomuscular force could continue to increase during the shortening of muscle…
Using Private Social Care Services in Finland : Free or Forced Choices for Older People?
2016
Use of private social care services among older people is increasing in Finland. This study aims to understand why older people choose private care in a comprehensive tax-subsidized social care system and examines whether people choose private service as a free choice or a forced choice as well as what factors contribute toward making these choices. Data for this study (N = 1,436) were gathered in 2010 from people aged 75 and above living independently at home in two Finnish cities: Tampere and Jyväskylä. Data were analyzed with several quantitative tests: chi-squared tests, multinomial regression analysis, and qualitative content analysis (for the open-ended responses from the survey quest…
A control strategy based on intelligent algorithm (PSO) to perform electrical stimulation systems
2017
International audience; Adjusting stimulation parameters using control strategy based on reliable mathematical model that can predict perfectly the muscle response, may improve the efficiency of Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) systems. In the present project, we investigate the PID control tuning based on the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm at the first time in neuro-muscular systems for updating automatically the stimulation pulse amplitude to track a desired force profiles. In the beginning, The PSO algorithm is used to identify unknown force model parameters. Next, optimal PID gains are found by the same intelligent algorithm to improve the control system. The obtaine…
Intramolecular Hydrogen Bond, Hirshfeld Analysis, AIM; DFT Studies of Pyran-2,4-dione Derivatives
2021
Intra and intermolecular interactions found in the developed crystals of the synthesized py-ron-2,4-dione derivatives play crucial rules in the molecular conformations and crystal stabili-ties, respectively. In this regard, Hirshfeld calculations were used to quantitatively analyze the different intermolecular interactions in the crystal structures of some functionalized py-ran-2,4-dione derivatives. The X-ray structure of pyran-2,4-dione derivative namely (3E,3′E)-3,3′-((ethane-1,2-diylbis(azanediyl))bis(phenylmethanylylidene))bis(6-phenyl-2H-pyran-2,4(3H)-dione) was determined. It crystallized in the monoclinic crystal system and C2/c space group with unit cell parameters: a = 14.0869(4) …
Proteins in Ionic Liquids: Reactions, Applications, and Futures
2019
Biopolymer processing and handling is greatly facilitated by the use of ionic liquids, given the increased solubility, and in some cases, structural stability imparted to these molecules. Focussing on proteins, we highlight here not just the key drivers behind protein-ionic liquid interactions that facilitate these functionalities, but address relevant current and potential applications of protein-ionic liquid interactions, including areas of future interest.
Dynamical Casimir-Polder forces
2010
We consider the dynamical (time-dependent) Casimir-Polder force between an atom and a perfectly conducting wall, as well as the dynamical Casimir-Polder force between two atoms in the presence of a boundary condition such as a conducting wall. The dynamical Casimir-Polder forces are obtained from iterative solutions of the Heisenberg equations for the time evolution of the electric and magnetic field operators around one atom in the presence of the conducting wall and related field energy densities, which are valid for any initial state. We consider both the case of an initially bare atomic state and of an initially partially dressed atomic state. The problem of relativistic causality in th…
Improving the Downwind Sail Design Process by Means of a Novel FSI Approach
2021
The process of designing a sail can be a challenging task because of the difficulties in predicting the real aerodynamic performance. This is especially true in the case of downwind sails, where the evaluation of the real shapes and aerodynamic forces can be very complex because of turbulent and detached flows and the high-deformable behavior of structures. Of course, numerical methods are very useful and reliable tools to investigate sail performances, and their use, also as a result of the exponential growth of computational resources at a very low cost, is spreading more and more, even in not highly competitive fields. This paper presents a new methodology to support sail designers in ev…
