Two series of dehydropeptides of the general formulae Boc-Gly-X-Phe-p-NA, Boc-Gly-Gly-X-Phe-p-NA, Gly-X-Gly-Phe-p-NA·TFA, and Boc-Gly-X-Gly-Phe-p-NA, with X = ΔZPhe and ΔAla, were studied with NMR in DMSO and CDCl3-DMSO, and with CD in MeOH, MeCN, and TFE. The NMR spectra measured in DMSO suggest that peptides with the ΔPhe residue next to Phe are folded whereas peptides with Gly between ΔPhe and Phe are less ordered. NMR spectra of ΔAla-containing peptides indicate that these peptides are flexible and their conformational equilibria are populated by many different conformations. The synthesis, structure and properties of N-acetylated derivatives of ethyl 3-amino-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxylate.

Ethyl 3-amino-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxylate (1) was yielded through total synthesis and reacted with acetic anhydride to give the acetylated products 2-6. Compounds 1-6 were studied with HPLC, X-ray, FT-IR, (1)H-NMR, (13)C-NMR and MS. Acetylation was carried out in solvents of various polarity, namely; chloroform; dioxane; DMF; acetic anhydride, at room temperature and at boiling points; and in the presence and absence of DMAP. Fluorescent substituted amidines of benzanthrone: synthesis, spectroscopy and quantum chemical calculations.

Abstract Several new substituted amidine derivatives of benzanthrone were synthesized by a condensation reaction from 3-aminobenzo[de]anthracen-7-one and appropriate aromatic and aliphatic amides. The obtained derivatives have a bright yellow or orange fluorescence in organic solvents and in solid state. The novel benzanthrone derivatives were characterized by TLC analysis, 1H NMR, IR, MS, UV/vis, and fluorescence spectroscopy. The solvent effect on photophysical behaviors of these dyes was investigated, and the results showed that the Stoke’s shift increased, whereas quantum yield decreased with the growth of the solvent polarity. Multiple chemical modifications were carried out on D-glucose to result in the corresponding Schiff bases. Such modifications performed on D-glucose not only helped in increasing the solubility of the products in nonaqueous solvents, but also restricted the anomerisation of the saccharide moiety in solution. NMR study of the products revealed the presence of the β-anomeric form of the saccharide moiety in Me2SO solution. All the compounds were characterised by analytical and spectral methods. Peptides Derived from Apoptotic Bax and Bid Reproduce the Poration Activity of the Parent Full-Length Proteins

Bax and Bid are proapoptotic proteins of the Bcl-2 family that regulate the release of apoptogenic factors from mitochondria. Although they localize constitutively in the cytoplasm, their apoptotic function is exerted at the mitochondrial outer membrane, and is related to their ability to form transbilayer pores. Here we report the poration activity of fragments from these two proteins, containing the first alpha-helix of a colicinlike hydrophobic hairpin (alpha-helix 5 of Bax and alpha-helix 6 of Bid). Abstract Density functional theory (DFT) studies on adsorption of several gaseous homo- and hetero-diatomic molecules (AB) including H2, O2, N2, NO and CO on external surface of H-capped pristine armchair (5, 5) single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) were conducted. Structures of C70H10 and the corresponding C70H10–AB adducts were fully optimized at the B3LYP/6-311G* level of theory. Calculated HOMO/LUMO energy gaps (Eg), 13C NMR chemical shifts and IR/Raman parameters were analyzed and critically compared with available experimental data. On the molecular structure of human neuroserpin polymers

The polymerization of serpins is at the root of a large class of diseases; the molecular structure of serpin polymers has been recently debated. In this work, we study the polymerization kinetics of human neuroserpin by Fourier Transform Infra Red spectroscopy and by time-lapse Size Exclusion Chromatography. First, we show that two distinct neuroserpin polymers, formed at 45 and 85°C, display the same isosbestic points in the Amide I' band, and therefore share common secondary structure features. We also find a concentration independent polymerization rate at 45°C suggesting that the polymerization rate-limiting step is the formation of an activated monomeric species. The polymer structures…

N-Acetyl-(E)-dehydrophenylalanine N'-methylamide [Ac-(E)-DeltaPhe-NHMe], one of a few representative (E)-alpha,beta-dehydroamino acids, was studied by FTIR in dichloromethane and acetonitrile. To support spectroscopic interpretations and to gain some deeper insight into the Ac-(E)-DeltaPhe-NHMe molecule, the Ramachandran potential energy surface was calculated by the B3LYP/6-31G*//HF/3-21G method and the conformers localized were fully optimized at the B3LYP/6-31 + G** level.
