Barotraumatic blowout fracture of the orbit after sneezing: Cone beam CT demonstration.

A 40-year-old man with no history of trauma or previous sinus surgery complained sudden right diplopia after vigorous sneezing. The patient was submitted elsewhere to a MRI study for persisting diplopia, with inconclusive findings. One week later the patient was submitted to a maxillofacial cone beam CT (CBCT) in our Institution. A blowout fracture of the right orbital floor and lateral orbital wall with an intact orbital rim and a ipsilateral maxillary sinus effusion with an air liquid level, were detected at the CBCT study. Three-dimensional distribution of trabecular bone density and cortical thickness in the distal humerus

One major barrier to osteosynthesis in distal humeral fractures is poor bone quality. This study was an attempt to measure the bone quality in the distal humerus.We measured the distribution of total bone mineral density (BMD), trabecular BMD (tBMD), and cortical thickness (CTh) in the distal humerus using peripheral quantitive computed tomography. Four slices in the infracondylar, supracondylar, and distal disphyseal regions of 25 human cadaver humeri were investigated.Total BMD decreased continuously from the distal diaphysis to the trochlea. Optic nerve decompression in trauma and tumor patients

Optic nerve decompression is a procedure that is now receiving increasing clinical attention. However, there are currently no standardized treatment protocols in the therapy of traumatic or pressure insults to the nerve. The present retrospective study was designed to report our experience with microscopic endonasal transethmoid-sphenoid optic nerve decompression in 24 unilateral trauma cases and 11 unilateral skull base tumor patients. In general preoperative visual acuities in the trauma patients were worse than in the tumor patients. Immediate Implant Placement in Fresh Mandibular Molar Extraction Socket: 8-Year Results. A Case Report

Abstract Recently, successful implant placement in fresh extraction sockets has been reported. In this case report, we present the results of an immediate implant placement in a fresh extraction socket of a mandibular molar with simultaneous bone regeneration using a nonresorbable membrane and no other graft materials. Clinical and radiographic findings acquired 8 years after implant placement demonstrated a stable peri-implant situation and confirmed a satisfactory treatment result.

The authors had for aim to study their characteristics and to suggest an adapted management. Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI), is a heterogeneous group of inherited disorders of connective tissue characterized by bone fragility.
