AbstractThe present endeavour is to augment mechanical attributes via friction stir processing (FSP) in hypereutectic aluminium–silicon castings by the means of microstructural modifications and defects reduction. Wherein, the study proceeds with mainly two approaches namely, alteration in tool revolution (TR) and the number of FSP passes. The prepared specimens were evaluated investigating volume fraction of porosities, microstructural characterizations and microhardness. Conditions for static friction between flat crystalline surfaces

The conditions for the presence of static friction between two atomically smooth crystalline surfaces are investigated. Commensurate and incommensurate walls are studied. While two commensurate walls always pin at zero lateral force and positive pressures, incommensurate walls only pin if mobile atoms are present in the interface between the surfaces or if the solids are particularly soft. Surprisingly, static friction can be observed between rigid surfaces, either commensurate or incommensurate, that are separated by a freely diffusing fluid layer.

Abstract Sediments conveyed from interrill areas to rills are transported by a thin flow (overland flow) and the knowledge of overland flow resistance is useful to evaluate overland flow velocity and sediment transport capacity. The aim of this paper was to verify the applicability of a theoretical overland flow resistance law, based on a power-velocity distribution, using field measurements for four upland grassland types used in different management strategies (Hay Meadows, Low-density Grazing, Rushes and Rank Grassland). A Cohesive-frictional interface model subjected to mixed complex loading paths

The paper presents a cohesive-frictional interface model based on surface damage mechanics. The proposed model is developed under the assumption that the fracture energies in mode I and in mode II are different values, as shown by several experimental evidences. At difference with the most spread available interface models, only one isotropic interface internalvariable is adopted for the constitutive model. Abstract On the basis of the boundary integral equation method, in its symmetric formulation, the frictionless unilateral contact between two elastic bodies has been studied. A boundary discretization by boundary elements leads to an algebraic formulation in the form of a linear complementarity problem. Bubbles and Crowding-in of Capital via a Savings Glut

This paper uncovers a mechanism by which bubbles crowd in capital investment. If capital formation is initially depressed by a binding credit constraint, a bubble triggers a savings glut. Higher returns in a new bubbly equilibrium attract additional savings, which are channeled to expand investment at the extensive margin, leading to permanently higher capital, output, and wages. We demonstrate that crowding-in through this channel is a robust phenomenon that occurs along the entire time path.
Globally convergent adaptive and robust control of robotic manipulators for trajectory tracking

This paper deals with a globally convergent adaptive and robust control of robotic manipulators for trajectory tracking in the presence of friction modelled as static nonlinearities. Two control loops are designed according to the cascade control scheme: (a) an inner adaptive control loop, which includes computed torque and PD control actions and friction compensation and (b) an outer robust control loop for unmodelled dynamics compensation.
