Structural and functional changes in the lateral temporal language areas have been related to formal thought disorder (FTD) in schizophrenia. Continuous, natural speech production activates the right lateral temporal lobe in schizophrenia, as opposed to the left in healthy subjects. Positive and negative FTD can be elicited in healthy subjects by glutamatergic NMDA blockade with ketamine. Macrostructural EEG characterization based on nonparametric change point segmentation: application to sleep analysis

In the present investigation a new methodology for macrostructural EEG characterization based on automatic segmentation has been applied to sleep analysis. A nonparametric statistical approach for EEG segmentation was chosen, because it minimizes the need for a priori information about a signal. The method provides the detection of change-points i.e. boundaries between quasi-stationary EEG segments based on the EEG characteristics within four fundamental frequency bands (delta, theta, alpha and beta). Studies on the effects of exercise training in persons with cervical spinal cord injury (CSCI) are scarce. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of an 8-week stationary arm-crank exercise (ACE) training programme on the level of autonomy, exercise performance, pulmonary functional parameters and resting heart rate variability (HRV) in persons with CSCI. To determine the effects of beta-adrenergic stimulation on transmitral Doppler echocardiography flow characteristics of left ventricular diastolic filling, we studied 10 healthy volunteers aged 23-31 years (mean age, 26.6 years) during intravenous infusion of isoprenaline in consecutive steps of 0.1, 0.2, 0.4, 0.75, and 1.5 micrograms/min (each for 15 min). AbstractThis study investigated acute responses and post 24-h recovery to four running sessions performed at different intensity zones by supine heart rate variability, countermovement jump, and a submaximal running test. A total of 24 recreationally endurance-trained male subjects performed 90 min low-intensity (LIT), 30 min moderate-intensity (MOD), 6×3 min high-intensity interval (HIIT) and 10×30 s supramaximal-intensity interval (SMIT) exercises on a treadmill. We differentiated the left ventricle non-compaction (LVNC) from hypertrabeculated myocardium due to a negative remodeling in thalassemia intermedia (TI) patients applying linear and planimetric criteria and comparing the cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) findings. CMR images were analyzed in 181 TI patients enrolled in the Myocardial Iron Overload in Thalassemia Network and 27 patients with proved LVNC diagnosis. Phenotypic variability in patients with generalised resistance to thyroid hormone.

Genetic linkage of generalised resistance to thyroid hormone (GRTH) to the human thyroid receptor beta 1 gene has been identified. To date 38 different mutations in several kindreds have been documented. We report on a family with GRTH displaying an adenine for guanine substitution at nucleotide 1234 resulting in a threonine for alanine substitution at codon 317 of exon 9. This mutation has been described for different phenotypes, suggesting that the heterogeneity in GRTH may be the result of multiple genetic factors.
