Online pricing for demand-side management in a low-voltage resistive micro-grid via a Stackelberg game with incentive strategies
2022
It has been demonstrated that online pricing mechanisms are a viable solution for demand side management in power systems. This study deals with the analysis and design of a droop-controlled low-voltage resistive AC micro-grid network system. Such a system is subjected to a dynamic demand obtained from an online pricing mechanism, which is proposed as a novelty in the study of micro-grids. This mechanism is derived from a variation of the Stackelberg game, which includes the use of incentive strategies. First, a configuration in which a supplier announces an incentive function and (Formula presented.) -consumers’ reaction to the resulting personalised price is presented. Then, a detailed st…
Elliptic Curve-Based Secure Multidimensional Aggregation for Smart Grid Communications
2017
In smart grid, data aggregation is considered as an essential paradigm in assessing information about current energy usage. To achieve the privacy-preserving goal, several homomorphic-based solutions have been proposed. However, these solutions either consider one-dimensional information or use costly pairing computation in order to ensure source authentication. In fact, smart grid data are likely to be multidimensional (e.g., time, purpose, and so on) for more accurate control. In addition, the aggregation node in smart grid needs to verify data that come from several smart meters in a residential area; hence, the verification must be cost-efficient. In this paper, we propose a scheme that…
Proposal of an Architecture to Retrieve Information from Multiple Devices Using Matchmaking Algorithms
2007
Semantic Web services (SWS) propose to extend the traditional Web services technologies on the way to consolidate ontologies and semantics. This makes possible the selection, the integration and the dynamic invocation of services. In this way, services are able to dynamically adapt themselves to changes without human intervention. The main purpose of this paper is to present an algorithm for matching SWS. The algorithm uses the description of the services capabilities to match the semantic values. The traditional matching has been improving using ontologies witch constitutes a step further in the matching algorithms. To implement the algorithm an agent FIPA compliant architecture has been d…
Gaining Competitive Advantage through Standardization and Differentiation of Services
2015
The goal of the paper is to study the question of whether or not differences between cultural groups influence the decision of a consumer wishing to avail himself of a particular service. Therefore we have developed a semiotic extension of the means-end approach as the theoretical basis for elaborating a solution to this problem. The conjoint analysis specifies the results of the meansend analysis.
Mobile agents and grid computing
2004
Publisher Summary This chapter describes mobile agents as an effective solution for grid service provision. A short overview is first introduced on the grid paradigm and the most known research activities in the field. Then, mobile agents are discussed and a comparison with the remote procedure call (RPC) method is made as far as the most effective solution to minimize network overload and fault occurrences is concerned. The common feature of all grid architectures is a coordinated and controlled resource sharing between the members of a dynamic multi-institutional virtual community. Community members agree on a set of sharing rules and permissions, by which resources to be shared and membe…
Semantic traffic applications based on DatexII
2009
In this work we demonstrate a particular use of ontologies based on the European specifications DATEXII. These specifications are designed and developed as a traffic and travel data exchange mechanism by a European task force to set up and standardise the interface between traffic control and information centres. It is the reference for applications that are developed and implemented in Europe. This language describes concepts and structures of data related to traffic, but the description is just syntactic, not semantic. Therefore the objective to be reached in this part of the research has been to develop a semantic description in order to carry out some applications like syndication and a …
Geostatistical techniques for runoff mapping: an application to Sicily, Italy
2011
The availability of reliable and long time series of runoff data is fundamental for most of the hydrological analyses and for the assessment and the management of water resources even in condition of global climatic change. However, hydrologic data sets are often characterized by a short duration and also suffer from missing data values, mainly due to malfunctioning of gauging stations for a specific period. In order to overcome this problem and obtain long and continuous runoff time series, different models and methods have been previously developed and proposed. While some models, used to extent the streamflow record, are conceptual, empirical, regressive models based on the rainfall inpu…
On the use of digital image correlation (DIC) for evaluating the tensile behaviour of BFRCM strips
2019
Fibre Reinforced Cementitious Matrix (FRCM) composites are becoming largely adopted for retrofitting masonry structures. These materials offer several advantages in comparison to Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) composites, such as good resistance to fire and high temperatures, vapour permeability, possibility to be applied on wet surfaces, higher compatibility with the masonry substrate. However, the tensile behavior of FRCM materials is more complex compared to FRP composites, due to the limited tensile strength of the cement-based matrix. For this reason, FRCM materials require appropriate tensile characterization and, in this context, the use of non-conventional measurement systems, such …
Experimental investigation on basalt grid cementitious mortar strips in tension
2018
Fibre reinforced cementitious matrix (FRCM) composite materials are currently receiving great attention for strengthening reinforced concrete and masonry structures, especially when specific preservation criteria need to be fulfilled. FRCM composites can be a convenient alternative to fibre-reinforced polymers (FRP) for their better resistance to high temperature and compatibility with stone and masonry structures. In this work an experimental study for the tensile characterization of basalt reinforced cementitious matrix (BRCM) strips is presented. Strips with one, two or three layers of grid were tested in tension to study the effect of reinforcement ratio on the tensile stress-strain res…
A Harris-based Region Detector on a Computational Grid
2007
This paper introduces a new Harris-based feature detector algorithm, characterized by no parameters tuning to detect region of interest. Preliminary results show that the proposed methodology returns good results with respect to standard detectors which need a set of parameters. An uncommon parallel implementation of the proposed algorithm is presented to support the high computational workload which is required to avoid the approximation of the results. Our parallel approach differs from the conventional one because an internal scheduler, based on the expected running time, is used to balance the data distribution on a client-server model. The aim of this paper is also to underline the adv…
