Global Understanding Environment: Towards Self-managed Web of Everything
2012
Current Web grows rapidly to several directions (from the Web of Documents to the Webs of Humans, Things, Services, Knowledge, Intelligence, etc.). Consequently the recent and future Web-based applications, systems and frameworks (like, e.g., Social and Ubiquitous Computing, SOA and Cloud Computing, etc.) should take into account challenges related to extremely high heterogeneity of components and exponentially increased complexity of a business logic connecting and making them interoperable. Enabling self-management enhanced with semantic technology seems to be an only option to handle that. We suggest adding a "virtual representative" to every resource in the Web to solve the global inter…
Splines Computation by Subdivision
2015
In this chapter, fast stable algorithms are presented, which compute splines’ values at dyadic and triadic rational points starting from their samples at integer grid points. The algorithms are implemented by the causal-anticausal recursive filtering of initial data samples, which is followed by iterated application of FIR filters. Extension of the algorithms to the multidimensional case is straightforward. A natural application of the presented subdivision algorithms is for upsampling of signals and images. A few upsampling examples are provided.
Cascaded Multilevel Inverter-Based Asymmetric Static Synchronous Compensator of Reactive Power
2022
The topology of the static synchronous compensator of reactive power for a low-voltage three-phase utility grid capable of asymmetric reactive power compensation in grid phases has been proposed and analysed. It is implemented using separate, independent cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverters for each phase. Every inverter includes two H-bridge cascades. The first cascade operating at grid frequency is implemented using thyristors, and the second one—operating at high frequency is based on the high-speed MOSFET transistors. The investigation shows that the proposed compensator is able to compensate the reactive power in a low-voltage three-phase grid when phases are loaded by highly asymmet…
Energy and environmental assessment of residual bio-wastes management strategies
2021
Abstract This paper assesses the potential energy and environmental impacts of an anaerobic digester coupled with a combined heat and power plant powered with bio-wastes from the agri-food sector. The analysis is carried out through the Life Cycle Assessment methodology following a “cradle-to-grave” approach and is based mostly on primary data. The anaerobic digester - combined heat and power plant is analysed considering a twofold perspective: one more energy – oriented where the main function of the system is to generate renewable electricity and a waste – oriented one in which the main function is treating bio-wastes. In addition, the environmental indirect effects related to potential c…
Semantic web technologies for facilities management
2007
Facility management is the practice of coordinating the physical workplace with the people and work of the organization. It integrates the principles of business administration, architecture and the behavioral and engineering sciences. To deal with these requirements, we have developed a framework based on Semantic Web technologies: RDF, OWL, SWRL and named graph. This framework, called C-DMF, allows facilities manager to organize all knowledge generating during building lifecycle in end-user contextual graphs.
Ontosmartresource: an industrial resource generation in semantic web
2005
Semantic Web is a logical evolution of the existing Web. It was meant to serve for machines as today's Web does for humans. The term "machines" according to the existing semantic Web's vocabulary mostly means "computers". However industry needs such applications, which consider machines also as embedded computational entities within field devices, personal devices, microwave ovens, etc. In other words, now we should involve the real (industrial) world objects as resources into semantic Web. Still the main object of such a world will be a human, which becoming a resource (not just a user of resources) in the distributed environment. In this paper we introduce an extension of the semantic Web…
Transmission-line model to analyze a multistage polarizer rotator
1991
A simple transmission-line model to design a broadband system consisting of a multilayered polarization rotator that rotates the polarization plane of a linearly polarized electromagnetic wave is presented. A simulation program that permits the design of the rotator parameters was implemented, and a prototype was designed, manufactured, and tested. Comparisons between the theoretical results and measurements are given, and a good correspondence is found.

A Review on Applications of Big Data for Disaster Management
2017
International audience; The term " disaster management " comprises both natural and man-made disasters. Highly pervaded with various types of sensors, our environment generates large amounts of data. Thus, big data applications in the field of disaster management should adopt a modular view, going from a component to nation scale. Current research trends mainly aim at integrating component, building, neighborhood and city levels, neglecting the region level for managing disasters. Current research on big data mainly address smart buildings and smart grids, notably in the following areas: energy waste management, prediction and planning of power generation needs, improved comfort, usability …
New Optimization and Security Approaches to Enhance the Smart Grid Performance and Reliability
2016
International audience; Nowadays, the Smart Grid (SG) is becoming smarter thanks to the integration of different information and communication technologies to enhance the reliability and efficiency of the power grid. However, several issues should be met to ensure high SG performance. Among these issues, we cite the problem of electric vehicles (EVs) integration into the SG to avoid electricity intermittence due to the important load that EVs can create. Another issue is the SG communication network security that can be attempted by malicious intruders in order to create damages and make the power grid instable. In this context, we propose at a first level a Bayesian game-theory model that …
