When Cosimo III (1642–1723), the penultimate grand duke of the Medici dynasty, commissioned artists and botanists alike to create comprehensive visual and textual catalogues of Tuscan flora, aesthetics and curiosity seemed to go hand in hand with a demonstration of knowledge and prosperity. The paper discusses some difficulties that life in Anthropocene poses to our ethical thinking. It describes the sort of ethical task that individuals find themselves confronting when dealing with the planetary environmental quandaries that characterise the new epoch. It then asks what, given the situation, would count as environmentally virtuous ways of looking at and going about our lives, and how relevant virtues can be developed. It is argued that the practice of gardening is distinctively conducive to that objective. Impact of 70 years urban growth associated with heavy metal pollution

Historical trends in trace element deposition were analyzed using herbaria specimens. We determined Al, Fe, Mg, Mn, Ca, Na, P, K, S, As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn contents in leaves of eight specimens collected in 1941. To assess changes, we collected the same plants from a botanical garden in 2012. The concentrations of major elements showed large species variability. However, temporal trends were predominately detected for heavy metals. The Cd, Ni and Cr contents in the 2012 leaves were 10, 13 and 16 times higher, respectively, than in 1941. In the framework of the transdisciplinary educational innovative project “Sciences and Arts” at the University of Valencia, we present here the design and outcome of an activity around the phenomenon of scientific travelers. It consisted in a scientific-literary tour through the Botanical Garden of the University of Valencia, that 100 students from the subjects “Natural Sciences for teachers” and “Literary training for teachers” attended. The COVID-19 situation has encouraged the creation of ICT-based learning environments. Difficulties in performing activities in a garden setting can be overcome by using Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR). Il messaggio etico dei testi di Francesco Buti per i "Fiori" di Girolamo Kapsperger (villanelle a 1,2,3,4 voci e Bc. del 1632) e la ricercata semplicità della musica giustificano la scelta anacronistica e stilisticamente inappropriata della titolazione di genere scelta da Kapsperger o dall’editore Masotti. Il termine villanella allude in questo caso a un giardino in cui i fiori formano un mazzetto di allegorie per il buon cristiano.
