A Virtual Tool for Load Flow Analysis in a Micro-Grid

2020

This paper proposes a virtual tool for load flow analysis in energy distribution systems of micro-grids. The solution is based on a low-cost measurement architecture, which entails low-voltage power measurements in each secondary substation and a voltage measurement at the beginning of the medium voltage (MV) feeder. The proposed virtual tool periodically queries these instruments to acquire the measurements. Then, it implements a backward&ndash

A parametric analysis of the transient behavior of lightning protection systems

2005

The paper have the purpose of investigate the influence of different parameters to enable better understanding of the transient performance of complex lightning protection systems (LPS). Lightning discharges constitute the major source of atmospheric or natural noise that can interfere with electric and electronic installations. The electromagnetic characterisation of the LPS environment plays a fundamental role in order to prevent unwanted coupling phenomena that may generate abnormal signals, electric stresses dangerous for the insulation of electric components, disruptive discharges and danger to persons. The model, developed by the authors, is based on a field-approach: the numerical so…

Random Slicing: Efficient and Scalable Data Placement for Large-Scale Storage Systems

2014

The ever-growing amount of data requires highly scalable storage solutions. The most flexible approach is to use storage pools that can be expanded and scaled down by adding or removing storage devices. To make this approach usable, it is necessary to provide a solution to locate data items in such a dynamic environment. This article presents and evaluates the Random Slicing strategy, which incorporates lessons learned from table-based, rule-based, and pseudo-randomized hashing strategies and is able to provide a simple and efficient strategy that scales up to handle exascale data. Random Slicing keeps a small table with information about previous storage system insert and remove operations…

Performance of a thermoelectric module based on n-type (La0.12Sr0.88)0.95TiO3-δ and p-type Ca3Co4-xO9+δ

2020

Here, we present the performance of a thermoelectric (TE) module consisting of n-type (La0.12Sr0.88)0.95TiO3 and p-type Ca3Co4-xO9+δ materials. The main challenge in this investigation was operation of TE module in different atmosphere conditions, since n-type has its optimum TE-performance at reducing, while p-type at oxidizing conditions. The TE module was exposed to two different atmospheres and demonstrated higher stability in N2 atmosphere than in air. The maximum electrical power output decreased after 40 h when the hot side was exposed to N2 at 600 °C, while only 1 h at 400 °C in ambient air was enough to oxidize (La0.12Sr0.88)0.95TiO3 followed by a reduced electrical power output. T…

Hard diffraction in photoproduction with Pythia 8

2019

We present a new framework for modeling hard diffractive events in photoproduction, implemented in the general purpose event generator Pythia 8. The model is an extension of the model for hard diffraction with dynamical gap survival in pp and ppbar collisions proposed in 2015, now also allowing for other beam types. It thus relies on several existing ideas: the Ingelman-Schlein approach, the framework for multiparton interactions and the recently developed framework for photoproduction in gamma p, gamma gamma, ep and $e^+e^-$ collisions. The model proposes an explanation for the observed factorization breaking in photoproduced diffractive dijet events at HERA, showing an overall good agreem…

Binding energies and pairing gaps in semi-magic nuclei obtained using new regularized higher-order EDF generators

2016

We present results of the Hartree-Fock-Bogolyubov calculations performed using nuclear energy density functionals based on regularized functional generators at next-to-leading and next-to-next-to-leading order. We discuss properties of binding energies and pairing gaps determined in semi-magic spherical nuclei. The results are compared with benchmark calculations performed for the functional generator SLyMR0 and functional UNEDF0.

On a Non-periodic Shrinking Generator

2011

We present a new non-periodic random number generator based on the shrinking generator. The A-sequence is still generated using a LFSR, but the S-sequence is replaced by a finitely generated bi-ideal - a non-periodic sequence. The resulting pseudo-random sequence performs well in statistical tests. We show a method for the construction of an infinite number of finitely generated bi-ideals from a given A-sequence, such that the resulting sequence of the shrinking generator is nonperiodic. Further we prove the existence of what we call universal finitely generated bi-ideals that produce non-periodic words when used as the S-sequence of a shrinking generator for all non-trivial periodic A-sequ…

Modulus of continuity with respect to semigroups of analytic functions and applications

2016

Abstract Given a complex Banach space E , a semigroup of analytic functions ( φ t ) and an analytic function F : D → E we introduce the modulus w φ ( F , t ) = sup | z | 1 ⁡ ‖ F ( φ t ( z ) ) − F ( z ) ‖ . We show that if 0 α ≤ 1 and F belongs to the vector-valued disc algebra A ( D , E ) , the Lipschitz condition M ∞ ( F ′ , r ) = O ( ( 1 − r ) 1 − α ) as r → 1 is equivalent to w φ ( F , t ) = O ( t α ) as t → 0 for any semigroup of analytic functions ( φ t ) , with φ t ( 0 ) = 0 and infinitesimal generator G , satisfying that φ t ′ and G belong to H ∞ ( D ) with sup 0 ≤ t ≤ 1 ⁡ ‖ φ ′ ‖ ∞ ∞ , and in particular is equivalent to the condition ‖ F − F r ‖ A ( D , E ) = O ( ( 1 − r ) α ) as r …

Cores for parabolic operators with unbounded coefficients

2009

Abstract Let A = ∑ i , j = 1 N q i j ( s , x ) D i j + ∑ i = 1 N b i ( s , x ) D i be a family of elliptic differential operators with unbounded coefficients defined in R N + 1 . In [M. Kunze, L. Lorenzi, A. Lunardi, Nonautonomous Kolmogorov parabolic equations with unbounded coefficients, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc., in press], under suitable assumptions, it has been proved that the operator G : = A − D s generates a semigroup of positive contractions ( T p ( t ) ) in L p ( R N + 1 , ν ) for every 1 ⩽ p + ∞ , where ν is an infinitesimally invariant measure of ( T p ( t ) ) . Here, under some additional conditions on the growth of the coefficients of A , which cover also some growths with an ex…

Development of net energy ratio and emission factor for quad-generation pathways

2014

Published version of an article in the journal: Energy Systems. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s12667-014-0126-4 The conversion of biomass to four different outputs via gasification is a renewable technology that could reduce the use of fossil fuels and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This study investigates the energy aspects for a new concept of biomass based quad-generation plant producing power, heat, methanol and methane. Circulating fluidized bed gasifier and the gas technology institute (GTI) gasifier technologies are used for this quad-generation process. Two different biomass feedstocks are considered in this study. The net energy ratio for six diff…
