Metabolomics approach to studying minimally processed peach (Prunus persica) fruit

2012

Fresh-cut fruit products for both retail and food service applications have increasingly appeared in the market place in recent years. Among different fruit types, peaches can be used and are highly appreciated as fresh-cut product although their commercial success is limited due to their short shelf-life and the quick onset of wounding-related physiological reactions. In this work we analyzed the technological and physiological changes induced by fresh-cut preparation in three different types of peach cultivars: 'Fayette' (melting), 'Wilhelmina' (non-melting) and 'Ghiaccio3' (stony hard). We performed a metabolite targeting profiling to focus on the changes in organic acid levels, importan…

Nitrogen uptake and nitrogen fertilizer recovery in old and modern wheat genotypes grown in the presence or absence of interspecific competition

2015

Choosing genotypes with a high capacity for taking up nitrogen (N) from the soil and the ability to efficiently compete with weeds for this nutrient is essential to increasing the sustainability of cropping systems that are less dependent on auxiliary inputs. This research aimed to verify whether differences exist in N uptake and N fertilizer recovery capacity among wheat genotypes and, if so, whether these differences are related to a different competitive ability against weeds of wheat genotypes. To this end, 12 genotypes, varying widely in morphological traits and year of release, were grown in the presence or absence of interspecific competition (using Avena sativa L. as a surrogate wee…

Correlations between productivity elements in Lolium perenne L. species for new varieties resistant to drought

2010

Perennial ryegrass is considered the most important perennial gramineous plant due to the many possibilities of use (grass and fodder) [6, 9, 15].With the increasing emphasis put on increasing the area of green space, obtaining new biological forms - varieties of the main species of gramineous plants for turf, with increased resistance to drought and land during the summer, may represent an important objective of the research companies producing such seed [6, 7].In the present study, are given researches on correlations between productivity elements, obtained in an experiment that simulates conditions of severe drought soil, to different genotypes of the species Lolium perenne L., which is …
