Barbara Sokołowska Brukalski. Analisi grafica della Casa a Niegolewskiego Street
2016
The project analyzed in this paper by the critical and digital redrawing is the House on Niegolewskiego Street of 1927-28, design…

In 1933, Emil Kaufmann revealed the figure of Jean-Jacques Lequeu to a wider audience for the first time by publishing, in his Von Ledoux bis Le Corbusier, a number of drawings by the then almost unknown architect from Normandy to support the thesis, still debated today, that sees Claude-Nicolas Ledoux's "revolutionary" architecture as the origin of a natural line of sight which, starting from the purity of neoclassical forms, leads directly to the works of the masters of the modern movement. The afterword analyses Felice Romano's study of the Novelle Méthode.
Propaganda grafico-persuasiva. Segni, forme, sguardi
2019
Mamluk Reproductions: Survey and Analysis of Tombs in the Cemetery of Sant’Orsola in Palermo.
2016
The contribution presents a study of various funeral chapels found in the cemetery of Sant'Orsola in Palermo. Realised during the 19th and 20th centuries, they van be taken as examples of Sicilian Orientalism. An original reading of the Rutelli Chapel, starting from the unpublished survey of its current state, provides an understanding of its geometry and morphology. The survey was conducted using the techniques of Structure from Motion. The Rutelli Chapel offers a very interesting example of architecture that demonstrates several similarities with some Mamluk mausoleums in Cairo.
A virtual reconfiguration of two destroyed neighborhoods in the Old Town of Palermo
2018
The proposed contribution deals with the topic of virtual three-dimensional reconstructions on an urban scale. The choice was oriented on significant samples of city portions that over the centuries have undergone substantial transformations or distortions: the aim is to reconstruct their history backwards, starting from the current survey and using the tools of virtual representation to reconfigure the forms of the past and tell their events. From here comes the idea to create, for pieces, a hypertextual study of the urban image of Palermo: the theme of the transformation of the city, of change and of complexity, opens up differentiated research paths. The hypertext choice was almost obvio…
Helena Niemirowska Syrkus: Graphic analysis of the ‘House of Dr Nelken in Warsaw’
2017
In 1920s and 1930s, Warsaw was becoming one of the hubs of propagation of the new architecture, thanks to the geographical contiguity with the Weimar Republic, which allowed the formation of young minds aimed at a blending of architecture, art and music. In this cultural context, a young Helena Niemirowska Syrkus supported the idea that urban planning and architecture, conceived as art forms, had to target at the definition of a language able of expressing the great revolutionary step achieved in the social, economic and political life of that time, through new configurations. According to Helena Niemirowska, who shared the avant-garde thesis, to become an artist the modern architect had to…

The graphic analysis, as Giuseppe Pagnano stated with great clarity in 1975, allows us to fully explore aspects that verbal language can only touch; it does not make us re-discover the rules of architecture but, as every critical operation, makes us understand which rules the architect used and above all it makes us understand why he formulated certain solutions rather than others. Therefore, investigating architecture with drawing not only means using the language used to design it but also using a privileged access key for understanding the shape. Graphic analysis, therefore, is a useful ‘tool’ for architectural criticism and the history of architecture because it contributes to the knowl…
Redrawing as key to the spatial thought of Hana Kučerová Zaveská
2017
The paper analyzes two works of Hana Kučerová Zaveská, Czech architect and designer who has made an important contribution to the Modern Movement, dealing with social housing and social services and placing its emphasis on improving the status of women. His brief but intense activity is developed in Czechoslovakia in the period between the wars and is influenced by the architecture and art movements that occurred in the country during the twenties and thirties. In the footsteps of Marcel Breuer and Mies van der Rohe, she creates furniture where functionality is combined with the elegance and in which we recognize the signature style of the designer, her innovative use of materials and produ…
