On the properties of the radiosity equation near corners

2003

The radiosity equation is an integral equation of the second kind which describes the energy exchange by radiation between surfaces in R3. It is assumed that all surfaces are Lambertian reflectors and that all emitters are diffusive emitters. The radiosity equation plays an important role for the calculation of photo realistic images with the help of computers. Many surfaces which are used in practical calculations are only piecewise smooth and contain edges or corners. In this contribution we present regularity results for the solution of the radiosity equation in the vicinity of corners. The space of piecewise continuous functions is not suitable for this equation and we construct a new f…

LONI & Co: Die epistemische Spezifität digitaler Wissensräume in der kognitiven Neurowissenschaft

2011

In the neurosciences digital databases more and more are becoming important tools of data rendering and distributing. This development is due to the growing impact of imaging based trial design in cognitive neuroscience, including morphological as much as functional imaging technologies. As the case of the 'Laboratory of Neuro Imaging' (LONI) is showing, databases are attributed a specific epistemological power: Since the 1990s databasing is seen to foster the integration of neuroscientific data, although local regimes of data production, -manipulation and--interpretation are also challenging this development. Databasing in the neurosciences goes along with the introduction of new structure…

The iconic interface for the PIctorial C language

2003

Iconic environments intend to provide expressive tools to implement, to debug and to execute programs. Moreover its pictorial constructs guide the user to design algorithms in an interactive fashion. Visual interfaces are especially required whenever programs run on an heterogeneous and reconfigurable multiprocessor system oriented to image analysis. Pictorial tools help the user to control the scope of variables, and the distribution of the tasks into the processors. In this paper, the general design, the visual-syntax, and the implementation of the first prototype of an iconic user interface for the PIctorial C Language (PICL) are described. >

Design of antitumor drugs targeting c-kit receptor by a new mixed ligand-structure based method

2020

An important challenge, in the medicinal chemistry field, is the research of novel forceful drugs to overcome tumor-acquired resistance. The c-Kit tyrosine kinase receptor (TKR) represents a suitable target for the carcinogenesis control of gastro-intestinal stromal (GIST), leukemia, and mastocytosis tumors; nevertheless, several hotspot mutations of the protein limit the efficacy of a few clinical administered TKRs inhibitors. In this study, a new in silico protocol based on ligand and structure-based combined method is proposed, with the aim to identify a set of new c-Kit inhibitors able to complex c-Kit mutated proteins. A recent and freely available web-server DRUDIT is used for the lig…

Data Analytics in Healthcare: A Tertiary Study

2022

AbstractThe field of healthcare has seen a rapid increase in the applications of data analytics during the last decades. By utilizing different data analytic solutions, healthcare areas such as medical image analysis, disease recognition, outbreak monitoring, and clinical decision support have been automated to various degrees. Consequently, the intersection of healthcare and data analytics has received scientific attention to the point of numerous secondary studies. We analyze studies on healthcare data analytics, and provide a wide overview of the subject. This is a tertiary study, i.e., a systematic review of systematic reviews. We identified 45 systematic secondary studies on data analy…

Estimation of Purkinje trees from electro-anatomical mapping of the left ventricle using minimal cost geodesics

2015

The electrical activation of the heart is a complex physiological process that is essential for the understanding of several cardiac dysfunctions, such as ventricular tachycardia (VT). Nowadays, patient-specific activation times on ventricular chambers can be estimated from electro-anatomical maps, providing crucial information to clinicians for guiding cardiac radio-frequency ablation treatment. However, some relevant electrical pathways such as those of the Purkinje system are very difficult to interpret from these maps due to sparsity of data and the limited spatial resolution of the system. We present here a novel method to estimate these fast electrical pathways from the local activati…

Hyperboloid and Parabolid in Orthogonal Axonometric

2012

This paper presents the issue of a long research on the representation of the complex surface in descriptive geometry. The ability to use the different techniques of representation aims to achieve results that you didn’t image before. In Palermo University, at the Engineering School, the researcher involved the study on the simplify of the so elaborated way to represent the geometry and its applications in architecture buildings and engineering implants. We just report below the application methods to represent two of the most used quadric surfaces in the practice of buildings. We are talking about Hyperboloid and Paraboloid quadric surface represented in axonometric projecting. This method…

Space and Light, Towards an Interactive Simulation of Lighting

2003

Caricature as a creative work for its creator and viewer / Karikatūra kaip kūrybinis darbas jo kūrėjui ir suvokėjui

2012

Nowadays we can witness a tendency where the visual replaces the verbal. Humour experiences the same: its visual expression – caricature – is a visual metaphor that already has taken its remarkable place in the field of humour. Caricatures have become a distorting mirror that show deformed but still fairly presented reality. Humour is important part of our everyday life's communication and it covers many spheres of people's life, even including marketing, politics, work relationships, etc. That is why caricatures became a remarkable tool, for example, in political contentions. This article will show what it takes to create this distorting mirror from one side and to see a reflection in it a…
