Landscape ecology starts from the assumption that diversity and spatial arrangement of ecosystem mosaics have ecological implications and tries to understand the interactions between diversity and structure of large spatially heterogeneous areas and their ecological functions. Bezier curves approximation of triangularized surfaces using SVG

This paper presents a technique to convert surfaces, obtained through a Data Dependent Triangulation, in Bezier Curves by using a Scalable Vector Graphics File format. The method starts from a Data Dependent Triangulation, traces a map of the boundaries present into the triangulation, using the characteristics of the triangles, then the estimated barycenters are connected, and a final conversion of the resulting polylines in curves is performed. After the curves have been estimated and closed the final representation is obtained by sorting the surfaces in a decreasing order. The proposed techniques have been compared with other raster to vector conversions in terms of perceptual quality.

Invariant Feature Matching for Image Registration Application Based on New Dissimilarity of Spatial Features

An invariant feature matching method is proposed as a spatially invariant feature matching approach. Deformation effects, such as affine and homography, change the local information within the image and can result in ambiguous local information pertaining to image points. New method based on dissimilarity values, which measures the dissimilarity of the features through the path based on Eigenvector properties, is proposed. The mapping properties of the radiosity operator along an edge

In this article we study the radiosity operator along an edge between two adjacent half-planes. First we show that the radiosity operator is invertible in a whole scale of anisotropic Sobolev spaces. In the absence of any shadows we are able to derive regularity properties of the solution, which depend only on the angle between the half-planes, the reflectivity coefficients and the right-hand side. This work can be considered as a supplement to the article of Rathsfeld (Mathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences 1999; 22: 217–241). Copyright © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Registration of arbitrary multi-view 3D acquisitions

International audience; To register 3D meshes representing smooth surfaces we track the 3D digitization system using photogrammetric techniques and calibrations. We present an example by digitizing a 800 mm x 600 mm portion of a car door. To increase the tracking accuracy the 3D scanner is placed in a cubic frame of side 0.5 m covered with 78 targets. The target frame moves in a volume that is approximately 1100 mm x 850 mm x 900 mm, to digitize the area of interest. Using four cameras this target frame is tracked with of an accuracy of 0.03 mm spatially and 0.180 mrad angularly. A registration accuracy between 0.1 mm and 2 mm is reached. Fast narrowing-driven partial evaluation for inductively sequential programs

Narrowing-driven partial evaluation is a powerful technique for the specialization of (first-order) functional and functional logic programs. The paleontological collection of Agostino Scilla (1629-1700), now kept at the Sedgwick Museum in Cambridge, has been visually represented since 1670, year of publication of Scilla’s treaty La vana speculazione disingannata dal senso. The plates of the treaty have been repeatedly used in scientific literature, in comparison with the specimens of the collection and, more often, with other visualization techniques.
