First-order visual interneurons distribute distinct contrast and luminance information across ON and OFF pathways to achieve stable behavior

The accurate processing of contrast is the basis for all visually guided behaviors. Visual scenes with rapidly changing illumination challenge contrast computation because photoreceptor adaptation is not fast enough to compensate for such changes. Yet, human perception of contrast is stable even when the visual environment is quickly changing, suggesting rapid post receptor luminance gain control. Similarly, in the fruit fly Drosophila, such gain control leads to luminance invariant behavior for moving OFF stimuli. Dynamic and static computer-guided surgery using the double-factor technique for completely edentulous patients: A dental technique.

A novel computer-assisted surgery (CAS) technique that merges dynamic and static CAS approaches to treat completely edentulous patients with dental implants is described. Radiographic and surgical stents are designed with specific fiducial markers that are recognized by the static and dynamic CAS software program. During the surgical procedure, implants are placed following the static surgical guide and the indications from the dynamic navigation system. This technique combines the advantages of static and dynamic CAS approaches to allow accurate and predictable minimally invasive implant placement.

Adoptive cellular therapy using chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CART) therapy is currently being evaluated in patients with relapsed / refractory multiple myeloma (MM). The majority of CAR-T cell programs now being tested in clinical trials are targeting B-cell maturation antigen. Several recent phase I / II trials show promising preliminary results in patients with MM progressing on proteasome inhibitors, immunomodulatory drugs and monoclonal antibodies targeting CD38. Simple Summary In patients with unclear soft tissue lesions, treatment planning largely depends on histology. Core needle biopsy is the diagnostic standard in these cases. The aim of this retrospective study was to investigate accuracy and safety of ultrasound guided core needle biopsy at a tertiary referral center. We show that ultrasound guided biopsy was feasible as a one stop shop procedure in an outpatient setting in 87.6% of the cases. The rate of conclusive biopsies was 88.5%. After surgical resection, the dignity, tumor type and histopathological grading of the biopsy matched one of the resection specimens in 97.2%, 92.7% and 92.5% of the cases, respectively.
