2020
Freely available healthcare, universally accessible to the population of citizens, is a key ideal for European welfare systems. As labor migration of the twentieth century gave way to the globalized streams of the twenty-first century, new challenges to fulfilling these ideals have emerged. The principle of freedom of movement, together with large-scale forced migration have led to large scale movements of people, making new demands on European healthcare systems which had previously been largely focused on meeting sedentary local populations' needs. Drawing on interviews with service providers working for NGOs and public healthcare systems and with policy makers across 10 European countrie…

Cuba and Italy: a comparative study on the determinants of health in a context of limited resources
2012
Italian and Cuban healthcare systems, although operating in very different context, show some of the best evidence in the world in terms of health outcomes. The Cuban model, unique because of an historical-economic-political asset not repeatable, had oriented its development on education and health promotion through a public health approach. The aim of our study is to perform a comparison of the Italian and Cuban healthcare system through the use of health indicators validated at international level in order to identify best practices. Cuba provides health care to all residents focusing strongly on primary care and health promotion and obtains similar results to Italy despite the limited av…

2015
This article focuses on cultural misunderstanding in care relations, starting from the analysis of the effects misunderstanding causes in the relation between doctor and migrant patient. This exclusion creates distance, which increases when doctor and patient do not share a cultural homogeneity but differ for their language and the way they conceive their body, health, disease. By showing some clinical examples, this contribution points out how specialized comp…

Managing an Online Survey about Influenza Vaccination in Primary Healthcare Workers
