The cardiovascular involvement in Fabry disease is progressive, and accounts for one of the major reasons for abbreviated life expectancy and increased morbidity. The majority of patients develop signs and symptoms, related to heart failure and arrhythmias. Pulmonary thrombendarterectomy was performed in 32 patients (14 men and 18 women; mean age 38 +/- 15 years) with thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (New York Heart Association stage III: n = 22; stage IV: n = 10). The preoperative arterial pO2 averaged 59 +/- 11 mm Hg; pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) and mean pressure (MPAP) were increased to 1,045 +/- 430 dyn.s.cm-5 and 53 +/- 12 mm Hg, respectively. Effects of exercise training on oxygen uptake in coronary heart disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis

It is not known to what extent exercise programs increase maximal oxygen uptake (VO(2max)) in patients with coronary heart diseases (CHD). The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of exercise interventions on VO(2max) in subjects with CHD. Database search of randomized controlled trials was conducted from PubMed. Studies were included that reported the characteristics and effects of exercise interventions in subjects with CHD, included a non-exercise control group and measured VO(2max) using direct measurement method. Eighteen studies were eligible. Exercise interventions increased VO(2max) by 2.6 +/- 1.6 and 0.3 +/- 1.4 mL/kg/min in the training and control groups, respectively…

In this work, we have studied the vulnerable window and propagation patterns in a human heart during acute ischemia. A 3-D biventricular model of a human heart with realistic heterogeneity and fiber orientations has been considered. The ischemic region was located in the anterior left ventricular wall mimicking the occlusion of the circumflex artery. The electrical activity of the tissue was modeled with the monodomain model along with a modified version of the ten Tusscher 2006 ionic model. The management of patients under the effect of antiplatelet or anticoagulant agents is a common challenge in thoracic surgery. Their temporary interruption or continuation needs a balanced assessment between the risk of thrombosis (interruption) and bleeding (continuation). Moreover, most patients must receive an anticoagulant for thromboprophylaxis (mainly a low-molecular-weight heparin). So, it is important to have in mind all surgical and anaesthetic implications of these drugs to take the optimal decision in each case.
