Nuclear transition rates in μ-catalyzedp-dfusion

Nuclear transition rates in \ensuremath{\mu}-catalyzed p-d fusion have been calculated using numerically converged $^{3}\mathrm{He}$ bound-state and p-d scattering wave functions for the first time. The transition rates for M1 radiative capture in both quartet and doublet initial states have been computed using a model of meson-exchange currents which reproduces the thermal n-d capture cross section, and are in excellent agreement with experiment. The muon internal-conversion rate is in very good agreement with a recent reanalysis of old bubble-chamber measurements. Furthermore, our nonvanishing quartet capture rate resolves the anomaly in the Wolfenstein-Gerstein effect.

Properties ofNe22(α,n)25Mg resonances

The $^{22}\mathrm{Ne}$(\ensuremath{\alpha},n${)}^{25}$Mg reaction has been investigated in the energy range ${\mathit{E}}_{\mathrm{\ensuremath{\alpha}}}^{\mathrm{lab}}$=0.73--2.10 MeV using high-resolution $^{3}\mathrm{He}$ ionization chambers. Sixteen resonances have been observed in the three neutron channels to the ground state and the first two excited levels of $^{25}\mathrm{Mg}$. From the analysis of neutron angular distributions, spin and parity assignments could be made for eight resonances. Furthermore, partial widths as well as absolute cross sections have been obtained yielding resonance strengths for the observed levels. The role of the $^{22}\mathrm{Ne}$(\ensuremath{\alpha},n) …

Gamow-Teller Transitions in Proton Rich Exotic pf-shell Nuclei Deduced from Mirror Transitions

The rp‐process nucleosynthesis proceeds through nuclei near the proton drip‐line, in which Gamow‐Teller (GT) transitions starting from unstable pf‐shell nuclei play important roles. In the β‐decay study of these nuclei, half‐lives can be measured rather accurately. On the other hand, in the high‐resolution (3He, t) charge‐exchange reactions on mirror nuclei, individual GT transitions can be studied up to high excitations. For the accurate study of the GT transition strengths in the A = 52, T = 2, system, we compare and combine the β‐decay study of the proton‐rich nucleus 52Ni and the 52Cr(3He, t) measurement assuming the isospin symmetry of the Tz = ±2→±1 transitions.

Turbulent Superfluid Profiles and Vortex Density Waves in a Counterflow Channel

In this paper we study the two-dimensional profiles of the superfluid component velocity and the quantized vortex-points density in a counterflow channel where the influence of the walls cannot be neglected. The numerical results obtained show the presence of vortex density waves in the channel, as shown in a recent paper by means of the one-fluid model.

Non-equilibrium Thermodynamical Description of Superfluid Transition in Liquid Helium

In previous papers a phase field model for λ-transition in 4He was proposed, which is able to describe the influence of the heat flux on the temperature transition. The model presented here generalizes previous results taking into account of a homogeneous presence of quantized vortices below the λ-transition. As parameter that controls the transition, a dimensionless field f linked to the modulus of the condensate wave function is used. Effects of heat flux on lambda transition in liquid 4He,

This paper is concerned with the derivation of a phase field model for λ-transition in 4He, when the liquid is subject to pressure and heat flux. As parameter that controls the transition, a field f that is the geometrical mean between the density of the fluid and that of the superfluid is used. Cascade of exotic helium atoms

Abstract The cascade of muonic helium and its pressure dependence has been calculated over the whole pressure range from 1×10 −2 to 1×10 3 atm. The calculation does not use any free parameter. The results show good agreement with experimental data.

Phase transition in liquid 4HE by a mean field model

In this work the transition of 4He at the lambda line in presence of a Cattaneo- Maxwell heat flux is studied. A hydrodynamical model is formulated, which chooses as fundamental fields the velocity, the temperature, the heat flux and a phase field function f, for which a time dependent Ginzburg-Landau equation is proposed. Using this model we are able to describe the phase transition and to obtain the pressure-temperature phase diagram which represents the transition, the thermodynamic restrictions and a maximum theorem for the phase field.

Silicon photomultiplier properties at cryogenic temperatures

Abstract The properties of different types of silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs) were studied at cryogenic temperatures. In liquid nitrogen at 77 K, problems with quenching in Hamamatsu SiPMs and with the protective epoxy layer, covering Zecotek SiPMs, were observed. Tests with one Zecotek SiPM were successful after removal of the epoxy layer. In liquid helium at 4 K, fast signals with pulse lengths shorter than 50 ns were observed, the dark count rate was below 10 Hz and no after-pulses were detected.
