The inevitable selection of topics has lead the preferences of this work towards the residents collaboration to defend the city, the conversion of many of them into traders of exotic products and singular slaves owners, and their collaboration to an incredible miscegenation due to the ethnic variety. This article analyzes the loss of legitimacy that the economic crisis brought upon representative democracy and the consequences that can be drawn for the thesis of the end of History. The thesis we defend here is that the deterioration of the welfare state, as a result, under very specific conditions, of the capitalism in certain parts of the world, runs parallel with the delegative degradation of democracy.

Fruto de una primera y rápida impresión, la figura de Antonio Muñoz Degraín (1840-1924) puede resultar la de un artista que no pertenece al siglo XIX, al menos en lo que se refiere al uso del color. El artículo presenta un esbozo histórico de la Facultad de Filosofía y Letras de la Universidad de Valencia. Se argumentan las razones que explican la creación de estas facultades en el marco de la reforma educativa literal y la construcción del Estado-nación, así como las estrategias políticas de los moderados, progresistas y demócratas. Se analiza su institucionalización y etapas, los profesores, los estudiantes, los saberes y la enseñanza. Se destaca la importancia de tres momentos históricos: el Regeneracionismo (1902-1939) que renovó la escuela; el impacto negativo de la dictadura de Franco; y los efectos de los cambios sociales de los años sesenta y setenta en la universidad.
