"La ricezione antica e moderna di figure ed eventi della storia di Roma. Fra ideologia e tendenza" - Introduzione al Convegno di Studi
2021
In the congress organised by Marilena Casella and Lietta De Salvo with the support of the Accademia Peloritana dei Pericolanti, moments and themes of Roman history of great importance are presented and retraced, in relation to which the interest of the contributions of the speakers is twofold: the angle of observation is in fact placed both on the topics as such, for the weight they had in the history of a civilisation, and on their reception and reworking, which makes it possible to speak of an era that is reflected in other eras, of events that integrate their meaning by handing it down to subsequent generations and contexts, maintaining their vitality.

The graphic analysis, as Giuseppe Pagnano stated with great clarity in 1975, allows us to fully explore aspects that verbal language can only touch; it does not make us re-discover the rules of architecture but, as every critical operation, makes us understand which rules the architect used and above all it makes us understand why he formulated certain solutions rather than others. Therefore, investigating architecture with drawing not only means using the language used to design it but also using a privileged access key for understanding the shape. Graphic analysis, therefore, is a useful ‘tool’ for architectural criticism and the history of architecture because it contributes to the knowl…

Imagery and Religious Conversion. The Symbolic Function of Jonah 1:13
2018
Jonah 1:13 has a delaying function in the narrative, introducing a pause between Jonah’s demand to be thrown in the sea (1:12) and the event’s occurrence (1:15). Most commentators discuss only the events of 1:13 and their causes. In this article, I suggest an interpretation of Jonah 1:13 based on the imagery of the narrative. An analysis of the use of metaphors and symbols does not replace the message of the verse; such an analysis simply augments it with motives of the seamen’s conversion. Beside the narrative level, there is a hidden level suggesting a deeper understanding of the story where symbols and metaphors have a consolidating function. Distance, directions, and movement in Jonah 1…
The Relocation of the Canons Regular Monastery in Żagań as an Element in the Reform of Interior Life
2019
The location in which a church was based played an important role in the life of religious communities in the Middle Ages. Interactions with society and the mutual influence of a monastery on the surrounding societies could support or inhibit the development of an abbey. There were situations when monks were moved to serve in different locations. In Silesia, we have two examples of canons regular monasteries. Both the monastery of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Wrocław and the convent of Żagań were originally located in other places. As described in the monastery chronicle, the transfer of the monastery from Nowogród Bobrzański to Żagań in 1284 was an event that opened new opportunities and per…
Opawski epizod w dziejach staropolskich ksiąg sądowych. Przyczynek do relokacji archiwaliów polskich w czasie II wojny światowej

In March 1939, the Czech State Archive in Opava (Zemsky Archiv v Opave), temporarily renamed Landesarchiv, was transformed into Reichsarchiv Torppau, one of the two higher level archives established in lands annexed to the Third Reich on the basis of the Munich Agreement. Its basie aim was to document the history of the so-called Sudetenland, with particular consideration of the role of the German nation in its civilization development. This task was to be supervised by the new head of the archive, Walther Klemens Latzke from Vienna, a historian and archivist, a declared Nazi and a member of the NSDAP sińce 10 December 1931.
