TECNOLOGIE DI RILIEVO 3D PER LA DOCUMENTAZIONE, L’INTERPRETAZIONE E LA VALORIZZAZIONE DEL PATRIMONIO ARCHEOLOGICO: IL CASO STUDIO DEL PARCO ARCHEOLOG…

2020

In recent decades, the application of geomatics technologies and methodologies to archaeological studies has led to a substantial change in onsite survey techniques and allowed an interdisciplinary approach between archaeology and digital technologies. The employment of these techniques aims to reduce the time of research and documentation, to acquire large amounts of data and to manage, in a more efficiently and quickly way, different datasets. Moreover, these new approaches provide non-invasive, flexible, low-cost methodologies to improve archaeological documentation from a quantitative and qualitative point of view. Nowadays, archaeologists can take advantage of various recording techniq…

3D Technology for the Artworks Handling

2022

In this study we present how to create a box for the transport of artworks put in place during the restauration of three polymateric sculpures made with trapanese technique called ‘Legno, Tela e Colla’. Thanks to 3D technology, we created a ‘digital twin’ of manufacts that allowed us to design and build supports and boxes for different uses. In this way, it was possible not to touch the artworks directly, so without risks for them, and to work even at a distance without the works, also in different places.

Impiego di 3D Web-service e software open-source nel rilievo di reperti archeologici: valutazioni metriche

2013

The Structure From Motion (SFM) algorithms derived from Computer Vision community make image-based techniquesa competitive and user friendly approach to obtain 3D information of real objects. These algorithms have been implemented in many 3D web-service and open source softwareto develop free instruments for the reconstruction of very detailed 3D digital models. Their useare becoming very common above all in archaeological studies but their potentiality for metric application have not been tested at all.The aim of the work is to investigate the quality and the accuracy of 3D models obtained through 3D web-service and SFM open source software.Different tests have been performed using some 3D…

Microstructural characterization of a 3D-printed soil

2022

Transversal applications of 3D-printing (or Additive Manufacturing) have been recently implemented in the field of Geomechanics. In a 3D-printing process, the printed volume is obtained from successive layering of adjacent soil filaments. In this work, the fabric of an as-printed soil has been carried out by combining Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry (MIP) tests and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) observations, with the aim to highlight how the particle arrangements and the orientation and shape of pores are linked to the printing operation. The microstructural analyses showed that macropores are the result of the relative position of the filaments and their initial distortion in quasi-undr…

Crowd sourcing and low cost strategies of survey for documentation and analysis of museum collections

2019

In these last years, there has been an increasing use of the Structure from Motion (SfM) techniques applied to Cultural Heritage. The accessibility of SfM software can be especially advantageous to users in non-technical fields or to those with limited resources. Thanks to SfM using, everyone can make with a digital camera a 3D model applied to an object of both Cultural Heritage, and physically Environment, and work arts, etc. One very interesting and useful application can be envisioned into museum collection digitalization. In the last years, a social experiment has been conducted involving young generation to live a social museum using their own camera to take pictures and videos. Stude…

A FEM model of rail track-ground system to calculate the ground borne vibrations: A case of rail track with wooden sleepers and k-fastenings at Caste…

2007

The prediction of ground borne vibrations is an important issue that needs a multidisciplinary research approach. The principal topics concern both the interaction between train and rail and the interaction between rail track and ground.

Bim and architectural heritage: Towards an operational methodology for the knowledge and the management of cultural heritage

2016

The study aims to answer the growing need for virtuously organize informational apparatuses related to Cultural Heritage. We propose a methodology that integrates multidisciplinary processes of interaction with information aimed at survey, documentation, management, knowledge and enhancement of historic artifacts. It is needed to review and update the procedure of instrumental data acquisition, standardization and structuring of the acquired data in a three-dimensional semantic model as well as the subsequent representability and accessibility of the model and the related database. If the use of Building Information Modeling has in recent years seen a consolidation in the procedures and the…

CONCLUSIONS

2022

Today’s communication has almost completely entered the digital world as the only system of language, be it graphic, spoken or artistic. It is no coincidence that the architectural and cultural heritage, as well as the urban aspects of the city, could not avoid undergoing significant change caused by the influence of the digital transition which allows them to be safeguarded, documented and handed down. Digital, through all its forms, is, today, not only the representation of the asset but also its management through BIM approaches. The boundaries of representation, digitization and documentation open up and become ever wider, embracing greater goals and responding to growing needs.

Automatic crack detection results using a novel device for survey and analysis of road pavement condition

2019

To accurately schedule maintenance operations, it is crucial to monitor the pavement state and, thus, evaluate the structural and functional indices during its entire service life. In particular, surface conditions (cracks, potholes, patches, rutting, etc.) must be properly checked – especially in terms of detection, identification, and classification of distresses – for avoiding reaching dangerous values for users (overpassing safety thresholds). However, monitoring and survey activities can be so costly (not only in economic terms, but further considering the execution time) to discourage their execution, with evident drawbacks for a proper maintenance management and the related intervent…

Timoteo Calvo Ibarra (1799-1879). Un arquitecto valenciano durante el reinado de Isabel II.

2015

In the complex scene of valencian architecture of 19th century, Timoteo Calvo Ibarra should be considered as one of the most representative authors. In his designs and interventions, such as the Literary University, the construction of new Cathedral’s Altarpiece, they are apparent the peculiarities of the first Historicism, coincident with Isabelline period. In this first stage of historicism, the homogeneity and guarantee of good taste that classicism provided was no longer valid as unique option and it will be simultaneous with romantic architecture represented by the first historicist experiences, which will conclude with the burst onto the scene of the eclecticism in the restoration of …
