Transport policy and climate change: How to decide when experts disagree

Abstract Transport is the sector with the fastest growth of greenhouse gases emissions in many countries. Accumulation of these emissions may cause uncertain and irreversible adverse climate change impacts. In this context, we use the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) to face the question on how to select the best transport policy if the experts have different opinions and beliefs on the occurrence of these impacts. Thus, both the treatment of uncertainty and dissent are examined for the ranking of transport policies. The opinions of experts have been investigated by a means of a survey questionnaire. The contribution describes the experimental analysis for the improvement of the mechanical properties of samples of earth with the addition of Laponite nanoparticles. Were made two types of samples: the first consisting of soil, sand and water; the second consisting of soil, water, sand and Laponite nanoparticles. An explicit unconditionally stable numerical solution of the advection problem in irrotational flow fields.

A new methodology for the Eulerian numerical solution of the advection problem is proposed. The methodology is based on the conservation of both the zero- and the first-order spatial moments inside each element of the computational domain and leads to the solution of several small systems of ordinary differential equations. Since the systems are solved sequentially (one element after the other), the method can be classified as explicit. Effect of biomass features on oxygen transfer in conventional activated sludge and membrane bioreactor systems

Abstract The aim of the present study was to compare the oxygen transfer efficiency in a conventional activated sludge and a membrane bioreactor system. The oxygen transfer was evaluated by means of the oxygen transfer coefficient and α-factor calculation, under different total suspended solids concentration, extracellular polymeric substances, sludge apparent viscosity and size of the flocs. Il testo descrive l’applicazione sperimentale di una nuova metodologia analitica diagnostica basata sullo svolgimento sinergico del rilevamento fotogrammetrico e dell'indagine termografica delle superfici architettoniche. La ricerca si pone l'obiettivo di caratterizzare lo stato di conservazione degli affreschi all’interno della Cappella Maggiore nella Chiesa di Santa Maria della Catena a Palermo attraverso l'elaborazione della diagnosi che risulti specifica per la redazione del progetto di conservazione e la direzione del relativo cantiere d’intervento. L'applicazione scientifica è svolta nell'ambito della sperimentazione della nuova Metodologia T.R.U.E. e del relativo software.
