Organisational GDPR Investments and Impacts
2023
The aim of this empirical multi-case study is to understand the GDPR investments and impacts of the organisations. Among these, the measuring experiences related to GDPR and information security (Isec), and the future expectations are examined. Several interesting findings were recognised, which also enabled further suggestions. First, an understanding of the organisations’ investments and their impact is built by gathering information about the actions that organisations made to fulfil the GDPR requirements. In the second phase, it is deemed necessary to examine how organisations experience the measures and evaluation of GDPR development and progress, in order to understand how respondents…
¿Por qué Turismo? Repensar el auge del turismo
2017
In the present work we consider the reasons that explain the spectacular tourism boom in the last 5 decades. The traditional responses to this phenomenon, presented a whole "frond" of tourist-economical interactions: tourism as a "motor of development", tourism as "dynamizing the economic system", etc. Therefore, our objective is to contrast this Tourism-Development-Economic Growth framework, certainly suggestive. In order to avoid mystifications it is necessary to define somewhat ambiguous concepts such as Development (and its interactions with Tourism) and to deepen the economic impact of Tourism, the ultimate root of all that "frond" that seems to be the basis of This formidable theoreti…
ICT TO MANAGE TOURISM IMPACTS
2018
New technologies have radically changed the way to share information, to speak, to consider relationships, to work, to travel and, in general, to live. They can represent, for some aspects, both a problem and a precious resource. As we concerns, in tourism sector, ICT can help in managing and promoting destinations in a better way than in the past, especially in those cases where problems linked with the management of tourist flows and the need to manage a sustainable development exist. Monitoring tourism impact at the destination is a fundamental issue in order to respect the right pressure and to avoid negative effects in the destination and with the residents. ICT, in this case, can be e…
THE IMPACT OF TOURISM DEVELOPMENT ON URBAN ENVIRONMENT
2012
By their nature, tourism activities cause certain effects on the environment. They may vary depending on the extent of tourist activities, and also on the factors contributing to their increase or decline. All these effects have led to the notion of “the impact of tourism activity on the environment”. Environment in general is affected by these actions, but this paper focuses mainly on the impact of tourism development on the urban environment. We divided these effects into four categories: economic effects, socio-cultural effects, political effects and effects on the natural environment, aiming to discover the implications for each of these categories. We consider this subject to be an act…
Embedding “roadside equipment” into environmental assessment of transportation system: the case of safety barriers
2015
The work arises from the consideration that the environmental impact of a road cannot be limited to the analysis of its constituent materials, even if correctly analyzed in their life cycle. In fact, a given road not only consists of the pavement and subgrade, but also includes several different components and accessories (e.g. road marking, drainages, safety barriers, etc.) that contribute to set a road infrastructure in operative conditions. As a matter of fact, only limited attention has been paid in the scientific literature to roadside components, unlike pavement and traffic flow. In the present work, the environmental burden of one of these components, i.e. the safety barrier, has bee…
Water and Energy Saving in Urban Water Systems: The ALADIN Project
2016
The ALADIN project was aimed at contributing to environmental and energy sustainability of the urban water system by means of a decision support tool able to allow an evaluation of the energy impact related to each different macro-sectors of urban water cycle highlighting the main energy flows and to assess the system energy balance and identify the possible energy-efficient solutions. Moreover the tool suggests the most efficient actions in reducing water losses. In the present paper the main features of the developed tool are presented. (C) 2016 The Authors. Chemistry and fluxes of major and trace element from worldwide passive degassing volcanoes: a critical review
2015
Volcanic emissions represent one of the most important natural sources of trace elements (e.g. As, Cd, Cu, Hg, Pb, Sb, Tl and Zn) into the atmosphere, sequentially influencing the hydrosphere, lithosphere and biosphere. The human health hazard during episodic volcanic eruptions generally follows from deposition of coarse and fine particles (2.5-10 and < 2.5 μm) that produces effects such as asthma and lung and respiratory disease. Regarding passive degassing volcanoes, the harmful effects of fluorine fumigation are known both for vegetation (foliar necrosis) and human/animals (fluorosis), but only a few studies have been focused on the effects of potentially toxic trace elements. From a …
