Effects of bacterial lipopolysaccharides (LPS) and tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF alpha) on rat tracheal epithelial cells in culture: morphology, …

1996

Rat tracheal epithelial cells were cultured and the effects of LPS and TNF alpha on cell morphology, rate of proliferation and NO synthase activity were studied. NO synthase activity was determined by measuring the accumulation of 3H-L-citrulline during incubation of confluent monolayer with 3H-L-arginine. In untreated cells no significant 3H-L-citrulline formation was detected, and bradykinin and the calcium ionophore A 23187 failed to stimulate 3H-L-citrulline formation excluding a constitutively expressed, calcium-dependent NO synthase activity. After culturing the cells for 18 h in the presence of LPS (10 micrograms/ml) and TNF alpha (500 U/ml) a marked formation of 3H-L-citrulline coul…

Hierarchical Syntactic Models for Human Activity Recognition through Mobility Traces

2019

AbstractRecognizing users’ daily life activities without disrupting their lifestyle is a key functionality to enable a broad variety of advanced services for a Smart City, from energy-efficient management of urban spaces to mobility optimization. In this paper, we propose a novel method for human activity recognition from a collection of outdoor mobility traces acquired through wearable devices. Our method exploits the regularities naturally present in human mobility patterns to construct syntactic models in the form of finite state automata, thanks to an approach known asgrammatical inference. We also introduce a measure ofsimilaritythat accounts for the intrinsic hierarchical nature of su…

Crosstalk of regulatory T cells and tolerogenic dendritic cells prevents contact allergy in subjects with low zone tolerance

2012

Background Allergic contact dermatitis is one of the most common occupational diseases. A main protective mechanism in those who do not develop allergic contact dermatitis is tolerance induction by repeated exposure to low doses of contact allergen, which is termed low zone tolerance (LZT). The mechanisms that determine the tolerance induction in subjects with LZT are still elusive. Objective We performed analysis of the role of CD4 + CD25 + forkhead box protein 3 (FOXP3)–positive regulatory T (Treg) cells and dendritic cells (DCs) in mice with LZT. Methods Mechanisms of tolerance induction were analyzed in a murine model of LZT by using FOXP3 and IL-10 reporter mice, as well as mice that a…

Changing Induced Moods Via Virtual Reality

2006

Mood Induction Procedures (MIPs) are designed to induce emotional changes in experimental subjects in a controlled way, manipulating variables inside the laboratory. The induced mood should be an experimental analogue of the mood that would occur in a certain natural situation. Our team has developed an MIP using VR (VR-MIP) in order to induce different moods (sadness, happiness, anxiety and relaxation). The virtual environment is a park, which changes according to the mood to be induced. This work will present data about the efficacy of this procedure not only to induce a mood, but also to change after the mood is induced.

ENHANCEMENT OF WHEAT VIRUS-RESISTANCE AT APPLICATION OF THE SE NANOPARTICLES CITRATES AND CONSORTIUM OF SOIL MICROORGANISMS

2021

The influence of pre-sowing seed treatments of selenium nanocitrates (SeNPs) and application of soil formed microorganism consortium (biological preparation (BP) Extrakon) on wheat plants infected with wheat streak mosaic virus (WSMV) were investigated in greenhouse and fields conditions in 2018-2019 (on territories of Zabolotny Institute of Microbiology and Virology of NASU). The pre-sowing seed treatments of 1% selenium nanocitrates (SeNPs) with application of BP Extrakon initiating the growth of juvenile wheat in laboratory experiments were found. In the field experiment on variants of WSMV-infected plants, two weeks after inoculation (tillering stage), we observed the appearance of char…

Induction capacity and influence of dThdMP on thymidine kinase activity of type 1 and 2 strains of herpes simplex virus

1978

The thymidine kinase inducing ability of 104 strains of herpes simplex virus was studied comparatively. A pronounced relationship was established between induction of the enzyme and the serotype of the strains. As a rule, the strains of serotype 2 are weaker inducer of dThd- and dCyd-kinase activity than serotype 1 strains. A certain parallelism exists between induction of both enzymes, however the activity of the thymidine kinase increases after infection with herpes simplex virus 4--5 times more than that of the dCyd-kinase. Adaptation of the strains to cell cultures only slightly modifies the inducing ability of the herpes simplex virus strains. The thymidine kinase activity induced by H…

A Ferrite Tubular Linear Motor (FTLM): Analysis and design

2015

The electromagnetic linear machines have wide applications in the electromagnetic aircraft launch systems [1] and in transportation systems [2]. Additional energy saving and efficiency can be achieved using a linear motor in the refrigeration application [3]. Linear electromagnetic machines are also very suitable for high-speed packaging, manufacturing sectors and precision positioning. There are different linear motor topologies. Tubular permanent-magnets are particularly attractive since they have a high thrust force density and high efficiency, no end windings, and zero net attractive force between stator and armature. There are various tubular motor topologies, in which the armature may…

STUDIO DI UN AMMORTIZZATORE ELETTROMAGNETICO A RECUPERO DI ENERGIA

2013

Settore ING-IND/14 - Progettazione Meccanica E Costruzione Di MacchineMain objective of this work is the theoretical study and support of FEM software of a device that allows for energy recovery from an automotive suspension. In replacing the viscous damper which dissipates the kinetic energy of the vehicle due to rough roads or obstacles more marked an electromagnetic damper is used that performs the functions of the viscous damper allowing a recovery of electricity. The damper is of the electromagnetic type with permanent magnets and its operation is based on the phenomenon of electromagnetic induction. The mathematical model describes the operation of the damper restoring the values of the electrical and mechanical magnitudes as a function of the relative speed between the rod and the stator. Energy recovery has been estimated considering an electric minicar that transits on a bumpy road. The recovered power has a total value of about 250W.
