Friction and wear of lubricated M3 Class 2 sintered high speed steel with and without TiC and MnS additives

Abstract M3/2 sintered high speed steel and composite materials processed by initial admixing of 5 wt.% TiC (to decrease wear) and 5 wt.% MnS (to minimise friction) powders, singly and in combination, were assessed in pin-on-disc tribometers specially constructed to simulate use in the automotive valve train. Pins were of the sintered materials and the mating tribological material discs of T1 high speed steel. Criteria of multiaxial random fatigue based on stress, strain and energy parameters of damage in the critical plane

In this paper generalized criteria of multiaxial random fatigue based on stress, strain and strain energy density parameters in the critical plane have been discussed. The proposed criteria reduce multiaxial state of stress to the equivalent uniaxial tension–compression or alternating bending. Relations between the coefficients occurring in the considered criteria have been derived. Thus, it is possible to take into account fatigue properties of materials under simple loading states during determination of the multiaxial fatigue life. Silica-coated superparamagnetic nanoparticles as contrast agent for magnetic resonance imaging: Synthesis and physicological charaterizations

Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) have received a growing interest for various biomedical applications due to their interesting magnetic properties. Herein, we report a method for facile synthesis of colloidal silica-coated superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (Si-SPIONs). The polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)-SPIONs were successfully prepared and then coated with silica by the modified Stober method. The obtained Si-SPIONs are highly monodisperse with uniform morphology.
