I mercati coperti a Palermo. Architettura e tecnica nella costruzione in ferro tra Ottocento e Novecento

2020

The history of the construction and transformations of the covered iron markets in Palermo, between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, is very interesting for scholars of historical construction techniques and systems and studies - in addition to the evolution, progress and rethinking - also the assumptions economic and social which made it possible to better organize trade within designed buildings. The essay offers some reflections on two covered markets designed by Giuseppe Damiani Almejda in Palermo and representative of that short and fervent Iron Age that was able to combine the needs of local entrepreneurs, who found a promising opportunity for growth in iron processing, and the…

FATIGUE CRACK PROPAGATION THROUGH AUSTEMPERED DUCTILE IRON MICROSTRUCTURE

2010

Austempered ductile iron (ADI) has a wide range of application, particularly for castings used in automotive and earth moving machinery industries. These components are usually subjected to variable dynamic loading that may promote initiation and propagation of fatigue cracks up to final fracture. Thus, it is important to determine the fatigue crack propagation behavior of ADI. Since fatigue crack growth rate (da/dN) vs. stress intensity factor K data describe fatigue crack propagation resistance and fatigue durability of structural materials, da/dN vs. Ka curves of ADI 1050 are reported here. The threshold amplitude of stress intensity factor Kath is also determined. Finally, the influence…

Spin Cross-Over (SCO) Complex Based on Unsymmetrical Functionalized Triazacyclononane Ligand: Structural Characterization and Magnetic Properties

2019

International audience; The unsymmetrical ligand 1-(2-aminophenyl)-4,7-bis(pyridin-2-ylmethyl)-1,4,7-triazacyclononane (L6) has been prepared and characterized by NMR spectroscopy. The L6 ligand is based on the triazamacrocycle (tacn) ring that is functionalized by two flexible 2-pyridylmethyl and one rigid 2-aminophenyl groups. Reaction of this ligand with Fe(ClO4)2·xH2O led to the complex [Fe(L6)](ClO4)2 (1), which was characterized as the first Fe(II) complex based on the unsymmetrical N-functionalized tacn ligand. The crystal structure revealed a discrete monomeric [FeL6]2+ entity in which the unsymmetrical N-functionalized triazacyclononane molecule (L6) acts as hexadentate ligand. As …

A multi-technique, micrometer- to atomic-scale description of a synthetic analogue of chukanovite, Fe-2(CO3)(OH)(2)

2014

International audience; A synthetic analogue of chukanovite Fe-2(CO3)(OH)(2) is formed during experimental work on iron-clay interactions simulating the cooling of containers in radioactive waste repositories. Despite its small size and the mixture with other minerals it is undoubtedly identified by X-Ray Diffraction, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy and Transmission Electron Microscopy. For the first time, the structural characterisation of a synthetic chukanovite is carried out thanks to the combination of Automated Diffraction Tomography and Precession Electron Diffraction. Refinement results and comparison with literature data show that the structure…

Input-Output Feedback Linearization Control of a Linear Induction Motor Taking Into Consideration Its Dynamic End-Effects and Iron Losses

2020

This article proposes a new input-output feedback linearization control (FLC) technique of linear induction motors (LIMs), taking into consideration both the dynamic end-effects and the iron losses. Starting from a previously conceived dynamic model, including the dynamic end-effects and the iron losses, all the theoretical framework of the FLC has been developed. The proposed FLC improves a previous version of FLC in accounting also the iron losses, which in LIMs with fixed-secondary sheet play a pivotal role more than in rotating induction motors (RIMs). The proposed FLC has been experimentally tested on a suitably developed test setup, and experimental comparisons between the proposed FL…

Temperature and doping dependence of normal state spectral properties in a two-orbital model for ferropnictides

2016

Using a second-order perturbative Green's functions approach we determined the normal state single-particle spectral function $A(\vec{k},\omega)$ employing a minimal effective model for iron-based superconductors. The microscopic model, used before to study magnetic fluctuations and superconducting properties, includes the two effective tight-binding bands proposed by S.Raghu et al. [Phys. Rev. B 77, 220503 (R) (2008)], and intra- and inter-orbital local electronic correlations, related to the Fe-3d orbitals. Here, we focus on the study of normal state electronic properties, in particular the temperature and doping dependence of the total density of states, $A(\omega)$, and of $A(\vec{k},\o…

INVESTIGATION OF ELECTRODE MATERIAL-REDOX COUPLE FOR REVERSE ELECTRODYALISIS PROCESSES. PART I: IRON REDOX COUPLES.

2012

The performances of electrodialysis (ED) and reverse electrodialysis (RED) processes depend on several factors, including the nature of the electrode material and of the redox couple adopted to make possible the conversion between electric power and chemical potential. In this paper, the possible utilization of iron-based redox couples (FeCl3/FeCl2, hexacyanoferrate(III)/hexacyanoferrate(II) and Fe(III)-EDTA/Fe(II)-EDTA) on graphite and DSA electrodes for RED processes was studied by a detailed experimental investigation. The hexacyanoferrate(III)/hexacyanoferrate(II) system was stable for lonf time (more than 12 days) in the absence of light and oxygen at high redox couple concentrations a…

Optimum Performance of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generators Coupled to Wind Turbines

2007

In this paper a control algorithm for the efficiency improvement of permanent magnet synchronous generators (PMSG) is presented. The proposed algorithm reduces the losses of the generator without affecting its performances. In details, after a description of a dynamic model of the PMSG, which has been purposely modified in order to take into account the iron losses, the basic equations and the constraints to obtain the loss minimization are presented and discussed. Some simulations of a specific PMSG employing the proposed algorithm are performed. The results of these simulations show that enhancement of the efficiency up to 3% can be reached in comparison to a PMSG using a traditional cont…

Diagnosis of chronic anaemia in gastrointestinal disorders: a guideline by the Italian Association of Hospital Gastroenterologists and Endoscopists (…

2019

Anaemia is a common pathologic condition, present in almost 5% of the adult population. Iron deficiency is the most common cause; other mechanisms can be involved, making anaemia a multi-factorial disorder in most cases. Anaemia being a frequent manifestation in the diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, patients are often referred to gastroenterologists. Furthermore, upper and lower endoscopy and enteroscopy are pivotal to the diagnostic roadmap of anaemia. In spite of its relevance in the daily clinical practice, there is a limited number of gastroenterological guidelines dedicated to the diagnosis of anaemia. For this reason, the Italian Association of Hospital Gastroenterologists and E…

Differences in tissue distribution of iron from various clinically used intravenous iron complexes in fetal avian heart and liver.

2015

Abstract Nanomedicines are more complex than most pharmacologically active substances or medicines and have been considered as non-biological complex drugs. For nanomedicines pivotal pharmacokinetic properties cannot be assessed by plasma concentration data from standard bioequivalence studies. Using intravenous iron complexes (IICs) as model we show that fetal avian tissues can be used to study time dependent tissue concentrations in heart and liver. Clear differences were found between equimolar doses of sucrose, gluconate or carboxymaltose coated iron particles. The range in tissue iron concentrations observed with these clinically widely used IICs provides an orientation as to what shou…
