Il bambino “sovrano” e l’adulto “irrisolto”. Tempi di crescita familiare ed educazione
2019
“Sovereign” child, apathetic adolescents, kidult, young adult, “unresolved” adult, forms of “pseudo-integrity” of the elderly are some expressions that show phenomena that are radically changing, along with the identity of the family, times of growth of the different generations, and the sense of belonging to a historical community. Profound transformations involved in the transitions of the family life cycle are also visible in the disappearance of some phases of family growth in favor of others. Through a pedagogical reflection on these phenomena, this contribution aims to underline some aspects of the ways of understanding education and growth in the family of late modernity, for the pur…
Evaluation of Effects of Various Irrigating Solutions on Chemical Structure of Root Canal Dentin Using FTIR, SEM, and EDS: An In Vitro Study
2022
Background: Sequential chemical application for irrigating a root canal during chemomechanical debridement can affect the dentin microstructure. Understanding the effects of various irrigants on chemical properties of dentin can elucidate their effects on physical properties and thereby explain the higher incidence of structural failure in endodontically treated teeth. This in vitro research aimed to compare and evaluate the effects of three different irrigating solutions on the chemical structure of root canal dentin in extracted human teeth. Methods: Forty-eight extracted single-rooted mandibular premolar teeth were sectioned at the cemento–enamel junction by a diamond disc and were…
Psychopharmacology treatment and psychological interventions in irritable bowel syndromel
2013
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) accounts for 25% of gastroenterology output practice, making it one of the most common disorders in this practice. Psychological and social factors may affect the development of this chronic disorder. Furthermore, psychiatric symptoms and psychiatric diseases are highly prevalent in this condition, but the approach to treating these is not always straightforward. As emphasized in the biopsychosocial model of IBS, with regard to the modulatory role of stress-related brain-gut interactions and association of the disease with psychological factors and emotional state, it proves useful to encourage psychopharmacological treatments and psychosocial therapies, both …
A novel device for intracolonoscopy cleansing of inadequately prepared colonoscopy patients: a feasibility study.
2019
Abstract Background The importance of high quality preprocedural bowel preparation is widely acknowledged, but suboptimal bowel cleansing still occurs in up to 20 % of all colonoscopy patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of a novel intraprocedural cleaning device for cleaning poorly prepared colons. Methods This multicenter feasibility study included patients aged 18 – 75 years who were referred for colonoscopy. Intraprocedural cleaning was performed in patients after a limited preprocedural bowel preparation regimen (2 days of dietary restrictions and 2 × 10 mg bisacodyl). The primary outcome was the proportion of adequately prepared patients (Boston Bowel Prepar…
Brønsted and Lewis acid catalyzed conversion of pulp industry waste biomass to levulinic acid
2019
Enormous amounts of fiber sludge are generated annually by the pulp industry as a by-product. As a cellulose-rich material, its current usage, mainly as fuel, is inefficient from a material efficiency point of view. This work studied the utilization of fiber sludge from a Finnish and a Swedish pulp mill as a potential feedstock to produce levulinic acid, a valuable platform chemical. The conversion experiments of fiber sludge to levulinic acid were performed in a microwave reactor with a mixture of H2SO4 and Lewis acid as the catalyst. The reaction conditions, which included reaction time and temperature as well as the H2SO4 and Lewis acid concentrations, were studied in detail. The highest…
WHOLE BODY IRRADIATION INDUCES IFN-γ PRODUCTION IN BALB/c MICE BY PREVENTING THE APPEARANCE OF A Vα14+NK T DOWNREGULATORY POPULATION
2000
Lymph node cells from TNCB-immune BALB/c mice fail to produce IFN-gamma when exposed to antigen in vitro. Conversely, lymph node cells of irradiated (550 rads) BALB/c mice produce IFN-gamma. Transfer experiments show that normal BALB/c mice contain cells which suppress IFN-gamma production. These downregulatory cells are CD4(+)alpha beta(+)and rearrange the invariant V alpha 14-J alpha 281 T cell receptor alpha chain, thus belonging to the NK T cell subset. Downregulatory cells probably act by producing IL-4 as their effect is blocked by mAb to IL-4.

Assessing Hydrus-2D model to investigate the effects of different on-farm irrigation strategies on potato crop under subsurface drip irrigation
2019
The objective of this paper was to assess the performance of Hydrus-2D model to simulate the effects of different on-farm irrigation strategies applied on potato crop. The ability of the model to simulate the stress coefficient (Ks), obtained as the ratio between actual and maximum transpiration, and to define the productive function of potato crop under the semi-arid conditions of central Tunisia were also evaluated. Experiments were carried out on potato crop under full (FI) and deficit irrigation (DI) and two different water qualities supplied by means of a subsurface drip irrigation system. Results evidenced that the model, despite some discrepancies locally observed, can fairly accurat…
CD40 provides immune privilege to the bone marrow hematopoietic niche
2020
AbstractAllogeneic bone marrow transplantation remains the only therapeutic option for a wide range of hematological malignancies despite the risk of possible adverse, immune-related events, such as infection and acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD). aGVHD is characterized by T-cell activation, defective B-cell development and osteoblastic niche destruction in bone marrow (BM) among other issues. Transplant conditioning regimens cause excessive inflammatory cytokines production and impaired regulatory T-cell control of aberrant T-cell activation. Here, we show that mesenchymal cells (MSCs) upregulated CD40 upon irradiation at the expense of mesenchymal markers, and that CD40 endows MSC o…
Erythropoietin restores the anemia-induced reduction in radiosensitivity of experimental human tumors in nude mice
2003
Abstract Purpose The effect of recombinant human erythropoietin (rhEPO) on the radiosensitivity of human tumor xenografts growing in anemic and nonanemic nude mice was studied. Methods and materials Anemia was induced by total body irradiation ([TBI], 2 × 4 Gy) of mice before tumor implantation into the subcutis of the hind leg. The development of anemia was prevented by rhEPO (750 U/kg s.c.) given 3 times weekly starting 2 weeks before TBI. Fourteen days after fractionated TBI (tumor volume of approx. 40 mm 3 ), single-dose irradiation of the tumor with varying doses was performed so that in full dose–response relationship for the probability of tumor cure was obtained. Results Radiation-i…
