Revision of the genusAcryptolariaNorman, 1875 (Cnidaria, Hydrozoa, Lafoeidae)

2007

The genus Acryptolaria is reviewed, with a complete redescription of the type specimens, with the exception of A. andersoni and A. rectangularis for which type material could not be located. The genus includes 16 valid species, though A. andersoni is insufficiently known. All records found in the literature have been checked. The cnidome proved to be a useful tool for species identification. A key for the identification of the species of the genus is also presented.

Comparison of Metrics for the Classification of Soils Under Variable Geometrical Conditions Using Hyperspectral Data

2008

International audience; The objective of this letter is to find a distance metric between reflectance spectra that is not sensitive to the variations on the soil reflectance induced by the geometry of solar-view angles. This is motivated by the fact that differences between spectra measured for the same soil under different observation and illumination configurations can lead to misclassifications. Using 26 soils of different compositions simulated with Hapke’s model and 92 soils of different compositions measured under 28 solarview angle geometries in laboratory conditions, we tested three metrics, namely, root-mean-square error, spectral angle mapper, and R2 (the coefficient of determinat…

High Frequency Model of PV Systems for the Evaluation of Ground Currents

2012

A high frequency model of a photovoltaic (PV) plant is developed and analysed to investigate the common mode (CM) currents circulating through the ground connections of the plant. The modelling method is based on the measurement of the impedance frequency response of photovoltaic module and on a high frequency representation of the power conversion unit. An overall lumped parameters circuit model is obtained and then implemented in PSpice. The CM leakage currents are evaluated by simulation.

Evaluation of ground currents in a PV system with high frequency modeling

2018

In this work a high frequency model of a photovoltaic (PV) plant is identified and implemented aiming to investigate the common mode (CM) currents circulating through the ground connections of the plant. From the identification of the impedance obtained by frequency response of photovoltaic module and by a suitable of the power conversion unit, an equivalent high frequency circuit representation has been developed. The lumped parameters circuit model is implemented in PSpice environment to obtain the CM leakage currents. Harmonics at frequencies multiple of the switching frequency and a strong resonance at about 12 MHz are detected.

Boundary communication: how smartphone use after hours is associated with work-life conflict and organizational identification

2020

This study investigates how boundary communication mediates the effects of smartphone use for work after hours on work-life conflict and organizational identification. It draws upon boundary theory, work-family border theory, and a structurational view of organizational identification. The research site was a large Scandinavian company operating in the telecommunications industry, with 367 employees responding to a survey at two time periods. In contrast to many studies, the use of information and communication technologies (here, smartphones) for after-hours work was not associated with work-life conflict, but was positively associated with organizational identification. However, communica…

Searching for a Common Language

2010

Perhaps you remember Steven Spielberg’s movie released in 1977, Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The memorable end of this movie shows how humans might communicate with extraterrestrials through the interchange of music, with the famous melody “D E C C G” that we all hummed.

The effect of texture on face identification and configural information processing

2014

Shape and texture are an integral part of face identity. In the present study, the importance of face texture for face identification and detection of configural manipulation (i.e., spatial relation among facial features) was examined by comparing grayscale face photographs (i.e., real faces) and line drawings of the same faces. Whereas real faces provide information about texture and shape of faces, line drawings are lacking texture cues. A change-detection task and a forced-choice identification task were used with both stimuli categories. Within the change detection task, participants had to decide whether the size of the eyes of two sequentially presented faces had changed or not. After…

An automatic L1-based regularization method for the analysis of FFC dispersion profiles with quadrupolar peaks

2023

Fast Field-Cycling Nuclear Magnetic Resonance relaxometry is a non-destructive technique to investigate molecular dynamics and structure of systems having a wide range of ap- plications such as environment, biology, and food. Besides a considerable amount of liter- ature about modeling and application of such technique in specific areas, an algorithmic approach to the related parameter identification problem is still lacking. We believe that a robust algorithmic approach will allow a unified treatment of different samples in several application areas. In this paper, we model the parameters identification problem as a con- strained L 1 -regularized non-linear least squares problem. Following…

RNN- and LSTM-Based Soft Sensors Transferability for an Industrial Process

2021

The design and application of Soft Sensors (SSs) in the process industry is a growing research field, which needs to mediate problems of model accuracy with data availability and computational complexity. Black-box machine learning (ML) methods are often used as an efficient tool to implement SSs. Many efforts are, however, required to properly select input variables, model class, model order and the needed hyperparameters. The aim of this work was to investigate the possibility to transfer the knowledge acquired in the design of a SS for a given process to a similar one. This has been approached as a transfer learning problem from a source to a target domain. The implementation of a transf…
