Influence of the sex reassignment on the subjective well-being of transgender men – results of the pilot study and discussion about future research

This pilot study was aimed at verifying scientific reports on the good functioning of transgender people. On this basis, it was attempted to compare the subjective well-being of transgender men with heterosexual, homosexual and bisexual cisgender men. This study tried to verify the role of hormone therapy and surgical gender correction (sex reassignment surgery) as potential predictors of the subjective well-being of transgender men. The process of envisioning the future is central to teachers’ identity construction, but different environments create distinct sociocultural conditions for the process. This qualitative study drawing on visual-textual methods compares Finnish and Brazilian student teachers’ desired and feared professional futures. Two different perspectives on future identities were detected: a desire for status and a desire for meaningfulness. The results revealed the radically different social status of teaching in the two countries and the role this played in the envisioned identities. A severe injury is an identity threatening situation for competitive athletes. Previous literature suggests that having a strong athletic identity can be beneficial for the athlete when injured. To the date there has been little research on how athletic identity is managed during that challenging time of injury.
