3D reconstruction techniques made easy: know-how and pictures

Three-dimensional reconstructions represent a visual-based tool for illustrating the basis of three-dimensional post-processing such as interpolation, ray-casting, segmentation, percentage classification, gradient calculation, shading and illumination. The knowledge of the optimal scanning and reconstruction parameters facilitates the use of three-dimensional reconstruction techniques in clinical practise. The aim of this article is to explain the principles of multidimensional image processing in a pictorial way and the advantages and limitations of the different possibilities of 3D visualisation.

Role of virtopsy in the post-mortem diagnosis of drowning.

Purpose: Due to admitted limits of autopsy-based studies in the diagnosis of drowning, virtopsy is considered the new imaging horizon in these post-mortem studies. The aim of our study was to evaluate the role of virtopsy performed through computed tomography (CT) in the forensic diagnosis of drowning. Materials and methods: We retrospectively examined the CT data of four cadavers recovered from sea water and suspected to have died by drowning. Each patient underwent a full-body post-mortem CT scan, and then a traditional autopsy. Conclusion: To date, there are no autopsy findings pathognomonic of drowning. Ventricular Fibrillation detection using time-frequency and the KNN classifier without parameter extraction

[ES] Este trabajo propone la detección de FV y su discriminación de TV y otros ritmos cardiacos basándose en la representación tiempo-frecuencia del ECG y su conversión en imágen como entrada a un clasificador de vecinos más cercanos (KNN) sin necesidad de extracción de parámetros adicionales. Tres variantes de datos de entrada al clasificador son evaluados. The Feldenkrais Method (FM) has broad application in populations interested in improving awareness, health, and ease of function.This review aimed to update the evidence for the benefits of FM, and for which populations. A best practice systematic review protocol was devised. Included studies were appraised using the Cochrane risk of bias approach and trial findings analysed individually and collectively where possible. Twenty RCTs were included (an additional 14 to an earlier systematic review). The population, outcome, and findings were highly heterogeneous. This study aims to investigate the effects of workplace noise on neural activity and alpha asymmetries of the prefrontal cortex (PFC) during mental stress conditions. Workplace noise exposure is a pervasive environmental pollutant and is negatively linked to cognitive effects and selective attention. Generally, the stress theory is assumed to underlie the impact of noise on health. Evidence for the impacts of workplace noise on mental stress is lacking. Impact of the Tiloop Bra mesh in CT images and dose delivery in breast radiotherapy

A new titanized breast mesh, TiLOOP Bra, is currently available for implantation in patients who require radiotherapy. The purpose of this work is to study the dosimetric effect of the presence of a TiLOOP Bra mesh on breast radiation treatment and radiographic imaging. The dosimetric effects have been measured for three X‐ray energies: 1.25 MeV, 6 MV and 18 MV, using radiochromic films placed at three different depths. These depths are representative of mesh location in breast during the radiotherapy treatment and hence, are of interest in this study. Semi-automatic detection of skin malformations by analysis of spectral images

The multi-spectral imaging technique to reveal skin malformations has been described in this work. Four spectral images taken at polarized monochromatic LED illumination (450nm, 545nm, 660nm and 940 nm) and polarized white LED light imaged by CMOS sensor via cross-oriented polarizing filter were analyzed to calculate chromophore maps. The algorithm based on skin color analysis and user-defined threshold selection allows highlighting of skin areas with predefined chromophore concentration semi-automatically. Preliminary results of clinical tests are presented.

Requirements on resolution of digital imaging equipment in the cardiac catheterization laboratory.

We evaluated the requirements on spatial resolution of digital imaging equipment in the cardiac catheterization laboratory. Fifty cinefilms of the heart as the biological object and one film of a lead-ladder-pattern as an objective test were used. The patient films were examined for the visibility of the left ventricular angiogram, coronary arterial tree, coronary artery lesions, branching of septal arteries and the number of septal arteries. All films were viewed three times: with a 625 line TV-system, with a 1249 line TV-system and with a cineprojector. Color Doppler imaging of the eye and orbit A synopsis of a 400 case experience

Color Doppler imaging (CDI) is a recent advance in ultrasonography that allows simultaneous two-dimensional imaging of structure and blood flow. Doppler information is superimposed in color over a conventional gray-scale ultrasound image. Using this technique we have examined 400 eyes. The central retinal artery, posterior ciliary arteries, ophthalmic artery, the central retinal vein and the vortex veins could be located in all normal eyes.
