Observing animals and humans : dogs target their gaze to the biological information in natural scenes

Background This study examines how dogs observe images of natural scenes containing living creatures (wild animals, dogs and humans) recorded with eye gaze tracking. Because dogs have had limited exposure to wild animals in their lives, we also consider the natural novelty of the wild animal images for the dogs. Mapping snow density through thermal inertia observations

Snow, as a fundamental reservoir of freshwater, is a crucial natural resource. Specifically, knowledge of snow density spatial and temporal variability could improve modelling of snow water equivalent, which is relevant for managing freshwater resources in context of ongoing climate change. The possibility of estimating snow density from remote sensing has great potential, considering the availability of satellite data and their ability to generate efficient monitoring systems from space. Hybrid blind robust image watermarking technique based on DFT-DCT and Arnold transform

In this paper, a robust blind image watermarking method is proposed for copyright protection of digital images. This hybrid method relies on combining two well-known transforms that are the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) and the discrete cosine transform (DCT). The motivation behind this combination is to enhance the imperceptibility and the robustness. The imperceptibility requirement is achieved by using magnitudes of DFT coefficients while the robustness improvement is ensured by applying DCT to the DFT coefficients magnitude. Multispectral image denoising with optimized vector non-local mean filter

Nowadays, many applications rely on images of high quality to ensure good performance in conducting their tasks. However, noise goes against this objective as it is an unavoidable issue in most applications. Therefore, it is essential to develop techniques to attenuate the impact of noise, while maintaining the integrity of relevant information in images. We propose in this work to extend the application of the Non-Local Means filter (NLM) to the vector case and apply it for denoising multispectral images. In the past few decades, there has been intensive research concerning the Unmixing of hyperspectral images. Some methods such as NMF, VCA, and N-FINDR have become standards since they show robustness in dealing with the unmixing of hyperspectral images. Destructuration of typical Sicilian calcarenites

The paper discusses some interesting features of Sicilian fine grain calcarenites. Uniaxial, triaxial, oedometer and isotropic compression tests were undertaken on intact specimens of two types of calcarenite in order to investigate their mechanical characteristics. It was found that the strength and deformability is significantly influenced by the structure (fabric and bonding) and by the destructuration processes. Rural futures in developed economies: The case of Finland

Abstract This study presents four possible images of rural futures in Finland: decentralized bio-economy, colonial countryside, museum countryside and rural business islets.
