Three-dimensional ultrasound evaluation in the head and neck.

We evaluated the use of a novel three-dimensional ultrasound imaging device in patients with various head and neck lesions. The investigated system was found to be a valuable adjunct to conventional ultrasound in head and neck evaluations. A disadvantage of the three-dimensional system was the need for expensive technical equipment.

Value of routine abdominal and lymph node sonography in the follow-up of breast cancer patients.

Abstract Objective: The aim of this study was to review usefulness and intervals for abdominal sonography during the follow-up of breast cancer patients. Additionally, we assessed the value of regional lymph node sonography in patients with possible locoregional recurrence. Subjects: Retrospectively, 2657 abdominal ultrasound examinations of 414 patients and 299 sonographic examinations of the regional lymph nodes in 227 patients after surgical treatment for breast cancer were evaluated. Results: Follow-up abdominal sonography revealed metastases in 6.8% of patients, and in 1% of examinations. There was no dependence on the initial T- or N-stage. Prospective comparison of CT angiography of the legs with intraarterial digital subtraction angiography.

The aim of this study was to determine the accuracy of CT angiography (CTA) with a single spiral acquisition for the diagnosis of arterial stenoses and occlusion in patients with peripheral vascular occlusive disease.In a prospective study, intraarterial digital subtraction angiography and i.v. CTA from the groin to the lower calves were performed on 50 patients with vascular occlusive disease. Maximum-intensity-projection images in multiple views were produced. Radiation exposure in vascular angiographic procedures.

Abstract Purpose To evaluate dose reduction in vascular angiographic procedures by using fluoroscopy capture instead of digital subtraction angiography frames for documentation. Materials and Methods A total of 764 consecutive vascular interventional procedures performed over a period of 1 year were retrospectively analyzed with respect to the fluoroscopy time and the resulting dose–area product (DAP), the DAP of the radiographic frames, and the overall DAP. Results A total of 70% of the total DAP was a result of the acquisition of radiographic frames, leaving only 30% being applied by fluoroscopy. Low-frequency ultrasound induces nonenzymatic thrombolysis in vitro.

To evaluate whether ultrasound, applied over a distance of several centimeters and in the absence of thrombolytic agents, may have a thrombolytic effect on blood clots.Low-frequency (20 kHz) continuous wave ultrasound at different intensity levels (0.15-1.2 W/cm2) and exposure times (5, 10, and 20 minutes) was assessed for its potential to induce thrombolysis of fresh human blood clots. Systemic pulsatile pressure in type II endoleaks after stent grafting of experimental abdominal aortic aneurysms.

Purpose: To investigate pressure and maximum rate of rise of systolic pressure (peak dP/dt) in completely excluded aneurysms and endoleaks to determine the hemodynamic impact of endoleaks. Methods: In mongrel dogs (n = 36) experimental aneurysms were created by insertion of a patch (portion of rectus abdominis muscle sheath) into the infrarenal aorta. A new thrombectomy catheter device (AngioJet) for the disruption of thrombi: An in vitro study

In this study we examined a new thrombectomy catheter device. Different kinds of in vitro generated thrombi and cadaver thrombi were disrupted in test tubes. The mean disruption rate (and disruption time for 1 g of thrombus) was 225 +/- 65 mg/sec (5 +/- 2 sec) for whole-blood, 117 +/- 60 mg/sec (12 +/- 9 sec) for fibrin, 41 +/- 18 mg/sec (30 +/- 18 sec) for mixed, 70 +/- 42 mg/sec (17 +/- 5 sec) for unorganized, 45 +/- 8 mg/sec (22 +/- 4 sec) for partly, and 5 +/- 1 mg/sec (216 +/- 29 sec) for completely organized cadaver thrombi (P0.05). Prostate brachytherapy treatment using permanent implantation of low-energy (LE) low-dose rate (LDR) sources is successfully and widely applied in Europe. In addition, seeds are used in other tumour sites, such as ophthalmic tumours, implanted temporarily. The calibration issues for LE-LDR photon emitting sources are specific and different from other sources used in brachytherapy. Automated myocardial segmentation from late gadolinium enhancement magnetic resonance images (LGE-MRI) is a critical step in the diagnosis of cardiac pathologies such as ischemia and myocardial infarction. This paper proposes a deep learning framework for improved myocardial diseases segmentation.
